Change Drive Letter

To change a drive letter upon insertion of usb is quite simple. Just one prerequisite: administrator.
So, you need a batch file with the following line:
diskpart /s %temp%\text.txt
and a text file saved as "text.txt" in your temp dir (%temp%) with the following lines:
select volume=F
assign letter=T

In this case, F is the current drive letter (F:\) and T is the drive letter that I want (T:\).

U3 or non-U3. whats the difference

Submitted by tigro on June 4, 2007 - 10:00am

Hey everyone,

I have a SanDisk Cruzer micro 1Gb thumb drive. It's the non U3 version.
I can run portableApps.com apps and other executables off of it without a problem.
I was wondering what is so special about U3 - and even, what it is and does it do? (besides that it's another standard I guess)

I tried to put U3 Skype on my drive but it wouldn't let me, so I guess U3's standards are a little bit different other than just having an app not use the windows registry.

Can someone explain/point out some major differences between a regular smart drive and between a U3 one.

Thanks

I really love these portable apps, they are stinking amazing! I also have a e107 pen drive setup that is suppose to work so I can develope PHP/MySQL apps. It's on my 30 gig ipod and I think it would work on a flash drive. Please let me know what I gotta do, thanks!

Legal ...

Submitted by franz_post on June 3, 2007 - 4:37am

I have build my portable app and will publish it on my own web site (because it is freeware, not GPL).

On my web site I would like to refer in this context to further Portable Apps on this page (portableapps.com) and show the PortableApps.Com logo for this purpose.

Any legal/copyright/property concerns with this?

Thanks,

Franz

Portable Apps on memory card?

Submitted by baseballnut on June 2, 2007 - 10:55am

I've got a Canon a540 with an SD MMC memory card. But I have no memory card adapter. I can, however, plug my camera into my Windows XP/Kubuntu 7.04 dualboot computer via USB. But I can't actually put any files or folders on it (with my current configuration), only read the files. Any idea on how to put portable apps on it?
