PortableFirefox blocked!

Submitted by WGroleau on May 26, 2007 - 12:48pm

My public library has figured out how to prevent Portable FireFox from running in their public computers. Sigh....

They have a Novell Apps Launcher network, and when I double-click the app on the USB drive, two popups says App has benn terminated (one for the launcher and one for FireFox).

Not that anyone can do anything here, just venting.

Two little questions.-

Just two questions...

As you now, there is an "AppInfo" subfolder inside "App" folder... What do the files there? I mean, are they necessary to run the PApp?

and the second one is, Every PApps is divided in two folders "App" and "Data"... Is it possible to put every PApp together sharing the same two folders? I mean, Can I have all my profiles in one folder and all my PApps in another one? ... I tried before but "AppInfo" keeps overwriting other Apps appicon.ico and appinfo.ini

Running PA on a work computer. . .

Submitted by Milenko on May 26, 2007 - 1:09am

Hey everybody. Just a quick question. I work for a company that doesn't exactly give everybody admin rights. U3 drives work no problem, but I'm not sure about this program. Just haven't tried it yet. I do know tried to run trilian on my work computer from a jump drive, and it would not work (although it works on my other 2 pcs, so I doubt it's a registry issue). What I'm thinking is that my work may have blocked the ability to run executables. Is the launchpad on a U3 drive an .exe or is it a different file type?

Other Apps

Submitted by tasha on May 25, 2007 - 1:45pm

I'm sure that this is answered somewhere here and I've been looking for days, but How do I load other Apps on my thumb drive and have them show up on the menu? Not the approved ones but other portable apps.

Thanks.

program developers smalltalk, what ide / programing language are you using?

Submitted by guestt on May 24, 2007 - 9:36pm

Dunno where to post but I think here are enugh developers around...

I tested several ide`s / programing languages and I would be interested what is your favorite one (for desktop/client programs)?

I tested recently....

* C++: with dev-cpp
-------------------
- you may compile your source under linux aswell too
- not bad, better then the PellesC ide
- much better then just notepad and gcc
- not that productive like visual studio
- complicated compared to C# and script languages like ruby

* C# .net, VB.net with visual studio 2005
-----------------------------------------

Can you close PAM from a batch file/command line?

Submitted by ozbodd on May 24, 2007 - 11:32am

I saw in another post from 2006 that John said there was no -exit switch, is that still the case?

I am using Bart's Launch.exe (http://www.nu2.nu/launch/) to open different themed menus of PAM and can use Taskkill to terminate the second instance however this wont function at my work Sad

**UPDATE**

Found out how to do it using AutoIT and refresh the TSR icons too. Probably still wont work without Admin rights though.

Setup of USB Flash Drive for PortableApps Not Possible in Windows 2000?

Submitted by bme on May 24, 2007 - 12:35am

I have a Twinmos X4 flash disk.I downloaded the lite suite on a windows 2000 pro PC. I tried installing the Lite Suite it proceeded until a error message saying 2 or 3 files are corrupted so installation cannot continue. I redownloaded the suite 2 times but still I get the error. I suspected that my flash drive is defective so I tried reformatting it. Then I installed the standalone version of audacity(not portable apps) on the flash drive. It worked ok.so I think there is nothing wrong with my flash disk.

I’m the creator and project manager of AccessFirefox.com.
It’s a website and initiative to promote Firefox accessibility and Firefox accessibility tools such as accessibility extensions and high contrast, large print themes plus general resources for persons with disabilities.
So far the site and project has been successful and it’s continuing to gain momentum thanks in part to the support and backing from Mozilla.

How to check if an app if completely stealth?

Submitted by Glitch on May 21, 2007 - 8:02am

Nowadays you can find a lot of portable applications on the web. These application will indeed run from a USB stick but most of them leave (a lot of) traces if they even work at all on PC's without admin rights (like my office PC).

I'm pretty newbish to all this but I am only looking for a way to check if an application is fully stealth or not. I did a search but I'm probably looking with the wrong terms.

Thanx in advance.

PFF's userchrome Q/A

Submitted by nerom on May 21, 2007 - 2:41am

Hi All! I have several questons about pff's userchrome file.

I searched, googled and etc., found many suggestions, but - the problem that these suggestions could't and still can't help me.

Coz' when editing \data\...\userChrome.css nothin' changes.

The modifications I still can't make:

1) remove "list all tabs" button. googled and found:

.tabs-alltabs-button {
display: none !important;
}

put it in chrome file. saved it. restarted firefox. but the button still there.

2) remove firefox splash. used portableapps search and found:
