Iron Portable did not close properly last time it was run

Submitted by operat0r on July 23, 2017 - 7:18pm

UPDATE: I don't use runas with the laptop so it's not the runas part so i'm thinking its the Veracrypt / Portable apps.

I think this is a bug in the way the lock file is created and / or it's something with Veracrypt / chrome / runas ? I just need to know what file I need to remove before i start Portable Chrome I been living with this issue for like what seems a decade lol...I don't need to be warned I am fully aware of issues with apps and data and I perform all my own full backups.

WinXP App Versions

Submitted by wquatan on July 20, 2017 - 4:09pm

More and more apps no longer support WindowsXP after an upgrade.

But is there no way to
- add the last WinXP version in the repository as xxxxxWinXP (similar to 7-Zip64)
- or at least provide a download-area with the last WinXP versions
- or any other working solution for having also the latest WinXP version installed (manually or automatically)

I know, WindowsXP is obsolete, but still used a lot under certain conditions or special cases.

Would be great

What if I share the idea for portableapps... will it become real or not?

What if I tell you, that i had a dream... the dream about just plugging in an usb stick, starting a program and suddenly, the desktop became like I'd want to see every time:

- Custom Wallpaper
- Program icons for the apps from PAL
- Files, Folders, ...
- ...

Something like Hirens Mini XP, like a WindowsToGo but without the OS part, it's just inside Windows but without virtualization to improve speed...

It is possible and it would make working at different areas much better then else... but ...

Re-name , Re-brand - The free software "App Store" of Windows.

Firstly I just want to say thank you to all the developers behind PortableApps, it's awesome.

I've used PortableApps for years but not on USB for a very long time. In 2017 when a capable smartphone is incredibly cheap (and tablets and laptops only slightly less so) carrying software on a USB stick is mostly limited to people who work in PC repair, maintenance/support.

Safely close PortableApp on Windows Shut down?

Submitted by getco on July 14, 2017 - 10:19am

What are the potential ways to safely close an app on Windows shut down so that it won't give an error next time I open it? I have an app that executes on Windows start and runs in the background and I don't feel like closing it each time I shut down Windows, so I'm seeking other means to automatically close it on Windows shut down.

Up until this Win10 build, you could always setup portableapps as a default app using:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

And also adding their registry key path here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications

Then you needed the standard
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\

Ex.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxMAFF
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxMHTML
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxPortableHTML
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxPortableURL
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxPortable
