Portable Apps and External HDD

Submitted by powens33 on July 2, 2017 - 7:47pm

I recently lost my motherboard in my laptop but the harddrive is still intact. I need to be able to access all files as though they are physically on the C:\. As a standard external harddrive I can access files but I can not run my major application or editors like: Microsoft office, Visual Studios, DVD Cloner, AVS and several other applications that were installed several years ago. The files were installed on a Windows 7 machine but I am now running Windows 10 on this new laptop.

Increase the menu size # of menu items from 19 in small font to user specified variable in .INI file

Submitted by matthewsheeran on July 2, 2017 - 6:37am

Increasing the menu size or number of menu items from 19 in small font via a number specified in a user variable in the .INI file settings would be a really nice not to mention easy feature to implement.

I would like to at least double the size since my PortableApps menu is a catch all for all the programs I do not wish install into Windows and its Start Menu but have a lot of favourites in consequence..

Attached are my Stardock Start10 Windows Start Menu replacement and PortableApps Menus for comparison as I rebuild my Windows CU after a crash...

Hangup when installing application updates

Submitted by jojothehobo on June 22, 2017 - 3:14pm

Hi:
On on of my computers, A Dell laptop, Windows 7, 8gb Ram, 250gb hard disk, Intel Core I7 first of second generation (yes it is generally slow), I find that, after downloading an application update, the installation hangs in the middle and doesn't install. On my other computer and on my USB thumb drive, it updates the PortableApps platform without difficulty.

So my question is whether anyone has a suggestion regarding how to to fix this problem?

Thanks
Jojo

How to use Portable Apps on Android

Submitted by nocternalvibe on June 18, 2017 - 8:19am

Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum.

I have used Portable Apps for years with much success. I am a big fan of programs that do not write to the registry and use little resources.
I am working on converting a Android TV Box to a PC. This will be used as a mini workstation for office functions. I could put the Apps on a USB or a SD card. This will be mostly used for: Office, Firefox, a photo viewer, Printing, Photoshop etc. The other stuff like Kodi and all of the TV tools would be removed. Can someone give me a little direction on this project? Can this even work at all?

How to Disable Auto Update on Opera 45.0?

Submitted by FirefoxFan on June 12, 2017 - 4:34pm

This is really annoying. I was using Opera Portable in a Virtual Machine in VirtualBox. I saved my VirtualBox session. When I loaded it up again Opera had updated to version 45 which has a completely new look and all my pinned and unpinned tabs were gone and there was nothing in the history!

How can I prevent Opera 45.0 Portable from installing updates automatically?

Pass command line arguments to application?

Submitted by exec on June 11, 2017 - 5:20am

Salut!

I cannot figure out how to pass command line arguments to Blender.exe
Is it possible?

Finally, I've figured out how to open FBX* file in Blender*
(Blender is 3d graphics editor. FBX is non-native format, that must be imported, instead of opening).

The command line is:

blender.exe -P im_fbx.py -- MyModel.fbx

(while im_fbx.py reads:
import sys
import bpy
argv = sys.argv
argv = argv[argv.index("--") + 1:] # get all args after "--"
bpy.ops.import_scene.fbx(filepath=argv[0])

)
