Encrypting Folders

Submitted by birtchbear on June 5, 2017 - 1:15pm

For years I've used dsCrypt on my flash drives. It's incredibly fast and simple to use. Until
recently, dsCrypt was all I needed.

I want to protect a couple of very important business related folders. dsCrypt cannot encrypt
folders, so I need an app that will lock a folder with password protection.

After a quick Google search, I found Cr!ptAES. The reviews say it can encrypt files and folders.
I cannot change hundreds of filenames, so Cr!ptAES must prevent a folder from opening without
a password. Is that what it does?

Can a PA portable app be run without the launcher?

Submitted by PortableGood on June 1, 2017 - 1:55pm

Let's say you install portable app XYZ using the PA Launcher.

Then you close the PA Launcher.

Is it now possible to run app XYZ without first running the PA Launcher, and have app XYZ clean up after itself?

Or is it necessary to launch app XYZ from the PA Launcher so that the cleanup process takes place after the app is done running?

TIA.

I was wondering if there was interest in PortableApps.com using its LinkedIn page the way we use our Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ social media to handle new app announcements, platform release announcements, and significant news posts. We have an unused LinkedIn page here we could use: https://www.linkedin.com/company/portableapps
(Page URL updated)

Would this be of use to you?

problem launching PDF-Xchange Editor (not so with Viewer)

Submitted by itsame on May 30, 2017 - 5:42pm

system: Win 7 Sp1 x86
This is an issue on my side, trying to run the new PDF-X Editor. I have successfully used the PDF-X Viewer.
As a note, this problem occurs with the publisher's original software as well.
The issue seems to be the DLL that is being used as a call from the exe - the problem is that the program does not launch. The executable (PDFXEdit.exe) may sometimes appear TaskMgr before the process terminates w/o any log present in event viewer. PDF-X Viewer did not have this issue because it uses an exe file as the main program.

[Closed] VIRUS - Wise Registry Edit & Cleaner

Submitted by saghalie on May 23, 2017 - 10:39am

Norton just hit Wise Registry Editor with Ransom virus warning. I was able to stop it from loading but am not really sure it's a virus. Norton has been giving me a lot of false positives lately.

But this was an update from this morning that portable apps downloaded to my computer so I wanted to get the warning out there so you can check your files to make sure it's actually a virus or not.

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Saghalie
