Forums: old threads being resurrected

Submitted by Wm ... on September 8, 2016 - 2:50pm

Noticed this evening that the Active Topics said that I'd posted yesterday to a 2 post thread
"Want a simple-ish Notes App with usable functionality ..."

I was the last to post to the thread on 2014 May 23 and it hasn't see any activity since then.

I've noticed old threads popping up before but never really looked until it was (apparently) me.

Not a big deal but when a number of them happen at once it makes the Active Topics list messy.

LinuxPA (PortableApps.com style launcher for Linux)

Submitted by CalebQ42 on August 31, 2016 - 10:31am

I personally use linux mostly, and over the past year or so I've started to collect Linux apps that run off my flash drive, but there was a problem: How can I organize my apps? I finally decided to just make my own and make it use the PortableApps format. If you would like to try it out, or help me out, head over to the Github page or download the latest release.

Programs do not work autofill automatic KeePass

Submitted by vagner32 on August 26, 2016 - 2:05pm

Hello!

Use KeePass on a local installation and for some time now the programs on the platform that use passwords is not working autofill automatic KeePass.
Already did a restore installed programs again and still not working. An interesting detail is that if I remove say the “Firefox” of folder “PortableApps” and put in the same device, it works! Ah! Autofill automatic KeePass works with the same programs in local installation.

Thoughts on these USB drives?

I need to carry some sensitive data around with me, as well as being able to use portable apps. I cant predict what computer/OS I will be using the drive on so needs to be something that uses encryption/password protection and will work on any computer. Ive found the following:

64 Bit Applications support

Submitted by Drazick on August 15, 2016 - 6:39am

I would like to raise a point for discussion.
It started on a different thread but it belongs here.

The current policy (Or at least the way I understand it) of PortableApps is to support applications if and only if they have 32 Bit version.

Lately, as in any progress, there are some great applications which are, to begin with, 64 Bit only.

Thoughts on Firefox Unbranded Builds and Testing Extensions

As of Firefox 48, extensions must be signed to be able to be used with Firefox stable and beta. Extension developers can use Firefox Developer Edition to continue developing and testing extensions. There is, however, some desire to test on the current stable before releasing to be sure all is well. Unfortunately, Firefox provides no way to disable the signature requirement to test your extensions.

FossHub Hacked - Audacity Affected (local, not our portable version)

Just a heads up that FossHub was hacked. Reports are coming in that downloads of ClassicShell and Audacity were affected (possibly more). Both ClassicShell and Audacity use FossHub as their official download site, so if you went to Audacity's site and selected to download the local version of Audacity, you might be affected. The malware in question wipes your PC's master boot record rendering the PC unbootable once you reboot.

Hi Mr. Gord Caswell,
I want to run a portable Android fie manager app on a usb hard drive e.g.ES File Explorer File Manager by ES Global in Google Play Store.
In your reply to J dub dated March 29, 2013 under the Topic : "USB hosting with portable apps on android", you advised J dub that he could run the apps off his phone when he used his phone as a usb drive.
