Portable NX client

Submitted by mehmood on March 18, 2008 - 5:22am

Hi everyone

I know there have been a few people who've asked about this before so I think they will be happy to know that the good folk over at Desktop On Demand have made available a portable nx client. Hurrah!

At the moment the only way you can get hold of it is by signing up for an account and unfortunately its not open to the general public as yet but if you use the following link (which btw they have sanctioned for me to release to you good people here) you can get an account which gives you access to the download area for the client.

Revisions

All,
OK, I said I was going to post this after the next "dam" revision, just didn't expect it quite so soon so it might be a little disjointed Sad , so here it goes.

I am concerned with the number of "Revisions" [i.e. Bug Fixes] being released.
I think this is a result of John being pushed [to put it kindly] recently to get things out faster.

I think that releasing Apps that need "revisions" so soon after release does not reflect well on our current testing procedures.

Just a random idea

So I just got done installing portable apps along with some programs. One of which was open office. i noticed that there was an icon for every instance of office (Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math and Writer), and it occurred to me that it'd be cool to have customizable folders so you can organize your programs into categories. Then you click on the folder and it expands to reveal the apps stored inside.

How come the picture of the portable applications menu on the home screen of this web site has an eject button on it? The menu I have don't have an eject button.

I was downloading an installer, when I noticed that for me it takes forever to delete it. Is it possible to put in the SelfDel Plugin so there's a self deletion checkbox or something? Or will it make things too complex?

Free Portable Applications For Flash Drives

Today I bought a Peak III USB Flash Drive and with it came a leaflet which lists some applications for use with Flash drives. The leaflet goes about explaining what portable applications are and..

"PEAK has collected a selection of portable applications and has verified them as safe and useful tools for users."

Software mentioned: PStart, Taango, DeepBurner, SoftPerfect, FoxitReader, PhotoFiltre, XnView, Remora USB Disk Guard...

and our own PortableApps.com apps like:

VLC Portable (5 stars)
OpenOffice Portable (5 stars)
