Possible Winamp Launcher

Submitted by Devo on March 20, 2008 - 3:38pm

I need a little help writing a batch file. I'm using winamp on my flash drive and it requires 1 registry entry to check if it is the pro version or not. I would like the batch file to:

1. backup the current winamp registry entry if it exists
2. apply my registry entry
3. start winamp
then when winamp is closed
4. delete my registry entry
5. and apply the backed up registry if it existed.

Installer clarification please

Submitted by Jacob Mastel on March 20, 2008 - 3:10pm

I made a stickies portable launcher and used the portable apps installer. I was told the the installer could only be used for open source apps. I'm a little confused because in the launcher code it says:

;EXCEPTION: Can be used with non-GPL apps distributed by PortableApps.com

Can someone clarify for me what the exact rule is. Because SpeQ portable is freeware and also uses the portable apps installer but nobody corrected that. I'm a little confused would somebody clarify this for me.

Portable Apps, Root, and Windows.

In a recent post the question of where to put portable apps on a hard drive came up.
It seems to me that the ideal place would be:

C:\PortableApps\...

If this were the case it seems that they could easily be transfered to and from different portable drives and hard drives with no difficulties involved.

e.g.
C:\PortableApps\... HARD
D:\PortableApps\... HARD
g:\PortableApps\... flash
j:\PortableApps\... external hard etc,etc.

I have not done this myself for two reasons:

1. Privacy, limited users cannot get into:

PA Installer

Hi

I like very much the portable software released on this site (specially GIMP) and now I want create my own portavle apps (software that I use)... but I've a question: what "Installer" (well... I know it's only an extractor) have you used to package your apps for the end users? .... I like very much the "look" of this installer (better than the simpler autoextractor of 7zip, winrar ecc...) and I want use it for my apps

Tnx a lot Smile

Data folder question.

I have an app that copies the settings folder called DreamChess to \Data\Settings\
Today I was thinking, could I just copy that folder into \Data instead of Data\Settings?

So instead
Data\Settings\DreamChess\
I would use
Data\DreamChess\

What do you guys think? Could devs make their own decision about that or would there be technical issues concerning these things?

Also, if an app has only one config file in \App could I put it in the root of \Data\ or would \Data\Settings\ be preferable.

But the main concern is if it would interfere with the PortableApps backup tool?

Portable NX client

Submitted by mehmood on March 18, 2008 - 5:22am

Hi everyone

I know there have been a few people who've asked about this before so I think they will be happy to know that the good folk over at Desktop On Demand have made available a portable nx client. Hurrah!

At the moment the only way you can get hold of it is by signing up for an account and unfortunately its not open to the general public as yet but if you use the following link (which btw they have sanctioned for me to release to you good people here) you can get an account which gives you access to the download area for the client.
