I just installed the base version of PortableApps and placed my pre-existing apps (PortableFirefox, Thunderbird, etc)in folders next to the menu folder as explained in the instructions. When I refreshed the menu, the apps show up in the menu and they run fine but the menu only has generic system .exe system icons, every app has the same one! The right-side folder icons for documents etc are fine.

Any suggestions?

I noticed when I updated Firefox that it changed the name in PAM to Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition and I noticed the same name change for Sunbird but not for Thunderbird. The two questions I have is why the name change for the two first apps and not the third? and if I just update firefox directly and not download it from the website am I missing out on anything??

on main page stands 'Audacity Portable 0.2.6 Rv 2', while its 'Audacity Portable 1.2.6 Rv 2'. just a small thing.

Anyone tried mojopac?
Seems like a nice idea, personally didn't care for the cutsie interface.
Would prefer a "plain" bar I can customize myself if I wanted to.
Also the options on the bar seemed incomplete and counter-intuitive.

Anyone else have an opinion or experience?

These applications also work well when run from a fixed hard drive instead of a USB stick (or similar), and it makes it trivial to back up the full application, move it to another machine retaining settings, etc. In my opinion, for these reasons, they're much better than their non-portable equivalents.

Just a note for all, the PortableApps.com main server is being upgraded tomorrow morning (March 1st) between the hours of 5am and 6am New York time. We'll be upgrading to two dual-core AMD Opteron 270 processors and 8GB of RAM. The upgrades are necessary to handle the ever-increasing load on the site as the number of unique visitors increases daily.

On a related note, the downloads server is coming online the end of this week / beginning of next. This is the server will allow us to host a select few non open source apps that have been asked for many times by the community.

Does anyone else have a missing search bar? I see the link, and it works, but no text box.

Does anyone know if DOS can write any settings to the registry? because if it doesn't, there would be over 200 DOS games that are portable.

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but I couldn't find the info. I recently got a larger capacity thumb drive and moved everything off of the old smaller one onto the new larger capacity one. Nothing is on the old one anymore but I would like to still use it for other things. When I install the old USB drive it still comes up as "PortableApps" and has the little PortableApps logo or icon next to it. I've tried renaming it but it always reverts back to "PortableApps".

I've checked all over the forums and couldn't find anything about this, except that the PortableApps Menu will run on any type of Windows account. At school, the system in WindowsXP, I tried Starting the PortableApps Menu, no luck, same with all of the programs, all I can access is documents. The computer says the program cannot start because of restrictions on the computer. Is there ANY work-around around this situation? Or am I outta luck?
