Web Site Login

Submitted by Crimblepud2 on January 14, 2013 - 1:29pm

I cannot remember the email address I used when I originally registered for the PortableApps.com web site.
I tried the form to reset password (entering my username: Crimblepud) but have not received any emails?
Is there any way to reset my account?
I have created a new temporary one but would like to regain access to my original account if possible...

Portables missing from the menu listing

Submitted by mzimerman on January 14, 2013 - 1:11pm

I recently downloaded and installed quite a few of the portable applications that were available through portableapps.com. It seemed to go well except for these messages that popped up after every install indicating that the computer was unable to write to the USB drive after the install. Several of the earlier applications that I downloaded do appear in the menu, but most of them don't. The applications seem to work if I execute them directly from the pen drive portable applications folder.

WhatsApp a possible portable app in the future

Submitted by tapsklaps on January 12, 2013 - 7:57pm

Based on the recommendation of a friend I have installed before a few hours the Messenger "WhatsApp" on my Android smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III. And I'm really impressed greatly. Although this messenger however has some vulnerabilities, he offers some outstanding features.

So you can directly from the Messenger out perform the following actions:

  • Record and send a voice message, a video or a picture
  • Choose and send a picture from the internal storage of the smartphone
  • Send your own current location

OK I know I turned 50 yesterday which officially makes me old ( so says my daughter) but seems to me over night the font size of the pages here in POrtableApps has changed. Also the left hand panel where the sponsor link is has flipped so that the sponsored link is about the actions panel is now on bottom......So Please tell me I am now not senile?

Virus or Portableapps?

Submitted by Hansj on January 12, 2013 - 11:42am

There is this particular ciber cafe whose PCs are infected. When the portable USB device is plugged in, portableapps.com reports that something has installed an autorun.inf.

The USB device has got 3 partitions. Portableapps is installed on the last, while the virus installs itself on the first. Its autorun.inf has some shell commands and also tries to open an exe which it has also installed in root, trying to delete it only works for a minute, then it's back. And the AVG on the PC also alert it as a worm.

Legacy Software

Submitted by rectitude on January 11, 2013 - 7:51am

Maybe not a biggie but I was a bit confused when I installed JKDefrag, only to find a better (and supported) solution in UltraDefrag so could we have a legacy category please for software which is no longer developed?

Too many applications, please implement search

Submitted by rectitude on January 10, 2013 - 4:23pm

In the history we have now not the need to be on the website always, but in the little app that runs in my system tray the list grows and grows...

.. so now I crave search.

Please kind and educated developers, can you implement a search box so that if I type "SSH" for example, I see all the potential SSH clients or if I type "putty" I find it straight away?

Cheers and shalom.

QuiteRSS Portable - Layout

Submitted by neumannon on January 10, 2013 - 10:32am

I have been using rssowl portable. It currently isn't in PAF which is why i really excited about quiterss.

After having tried it out, I have a couple needs before I could switch to it 100%.

1) RSSOwl has a newspaper view where all the articles are listed in the browser view. i can hide the article list which is good. I just scroll through the articles using the direction arrows on the keyboard but it would be nice to just scroll through all the articles in the browser using the mouse wheel.

2) Google reader sync is also another option as they use this type of view.
