Thunderbird 3.0 / download/ Restored Settings gone

Submitted by Evan_1234 on December 22, 2009 - 6:28pm

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0. When I restarted Thunderbird, it froze and slowed to a halt when trying to index. I restored my settings to a day earlier. However, when I try to open Thunderbird it does not work. It looks as if it is trying but nothing ever appears.
I would like to get my old settings, addresses and messages but I don't know how.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
R

Suggestion: Theme Gallery

Submitted by xlegs on December 22, 2009 - 3:49pm

I think that it is in PA.c's best interests to make a PAM theme gallery, something like Google Chromes gallery (thumbnails, name, and a link for a larger preview and download).

Obviously the PAM 2.0 needs to come out. I think that an addition like this would make it better known that PAM can be customized.

I understand that most resources behind this site is devoted to other (and arguably more important) things, but this may become increasingly important as PA.c becomes more mainstream.

nsis help: redirect APPDATA

Submitted by agdurrette on December 22, 2009 - 12:14am

Gluxon looked at the code and we both are getting errors. I'm going going to post on the HandBrake forum and see what I can find out what to do about the errors. If I cant figure out what to do I have two other choices I can do to make it work Move the folders in appdata (I rather not do that in case the computer get turned off or the usb gets unplugged ) Or I can make a patch for HandBrake to make it portable.

Rackspace outage covered on PC World

Since PortableApps.com is so vocal about Rackspace on Twitter, I figured this link might come in handy: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/185171/rackspace_outage_ha...

Maybe you guys might have a comment or two, I'm sure Rackspace would be concerned if some of their customers commented on the blog (might even be a good way to plug PortableApps.com at the same time).

Personas?

I was looking at Thunderbird addons (I can't believe something as simple as File->Subscribe was the whole reason I couldn't run TB for a whole year...) I noticed Personas. And I thought (5 minutes ago), the PAM could use Personas. It would solve nearly every single gripe about theming it, including resizing (just grab a different sized persona) and complexity (just make a pic of a certain size). It'd be a good goal for PAM 3.0...

Compatibility of portable softwae with Windows 7?

Submitted by quest221 on December 17, 2009 - 9:42pm

Hi,

When I use some portable application on Windows 7, I found that they don't "compatible" with Windows 7, the description "compatible" maybe not accurate, so please see the following screen shot.
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/2706/firefoxp.png
Note:Seems I can't insert a picture here.

The first Firefox icon on the superbar is the FirefoxPortable.exe, after I click it to start the Firefox, it will launch the real Firefox.exe and show a icon of Firefox as the second icon on the superbar.

No thanks

I love the idea of the portable apps, and have tried it over a year now. Firefox is buggier than IE ever dreamed of being, and upgrading software or being asked to every time you use it is annoying. The office apps and pdf reader are decent but still hit or miss if you use them much. Love the planetarium app and the games.

Basically I use(d) this at work where I move around a lot. When it works, it is fantastic, but most of the time it is on the same level of frustration as working thru DOS. I am too old to put up with that crap again.

High memory usage with Internet Explorer when visiting PortableApps.com

Submitted by PAUser01 on December 15, 2009 - 9:31pm

Hi, guys.

I'm using Internet Explorer 8 and when I visit PortableApps.com the RAM it uses is more than 350 MB. This does not occur when I use Firefox (it uses less than 100 MB). The high memory usage only occurs when I visit this site. I've tested it with two other PCs and the behavior is the same.

I was going through the site as normal, when I noticed that Norton had given Patrick's website a false positive. I wanted to send a PM to him, telling him about this, and showing him how he could claim ownership of the site and request a reevaluation, when I realized there was no PM button.

Does this feature exist, and if so, how do you use it.
