Security for Flash Drive (TrueCrypt)

Submitted by joesmith07 on June 26, 2007 - 5:51pm

I just purchased a SanDisk Micro drive with U3. I rather use portable apps but I need to know that my drive is secure. I do like the fact that U3 has a security feature but rather use portable apps. Is Truecrypt the solution? Also, I purchased a disk which is 4 gigs. Should I create the volume to be 4 gigs and secure my whole drive?

Whats in your pocket?

Upon Install No Apps Work?

Submitted by Zoidberg on June 25, 2007 - 5:08pm

Howdy All,

Looking forward to using this great program but every time I install it on my 8GB flash drive it seems to install fine but nothing will run. I just get the quick flash of the DOS window and then it closes, that is it. I just downloaded the program again to see if perhaps the last one was corrupt. It is at 51% thus far so we will see but last time it would not autorun nor would it if I clicked on the .exe.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers!

Ripping CDs without touching the HD

Submitted by keenPenguin on June 25, 2007 - 10:01am

Hi,

I would like to rip CDs directly to my MP3 device without interfering with the HD of the local PC, i.e. without writing on anything but the RAM and the MP3 device. Is there a portable app capable of doing this? I use both (SuSE) Linux and Windows XP.

Also, I have a general question about portable apps: these apps do not change any boot information on this device, right? For the MP3 device, they are nothing but files, just like pictures or pdfs, correct?

bye

VIRUS -many

Submitted by 5566 on June 25, 2007 - 10:00am

Hi, I'm new to portable apps. I think its a reall cool and convenient software package. I spend a lot of time in internet cafes so I'm looking to increase the pleasure of my surfing experience and also make it more secure!!

I installed the portable apps menue and some apps. I did install the virus scanner.

Today, actually now, I am at an internet cafe. I plugged in my usb key. Ran the virus scan and the key is LOADED with viruses. They must have transfered into the key when I plugged it in. They are all over the place, in several folders...
