PortableApps.com Monthly Newsletter?

Submitted by Nick on November 21, 2006 - 12:52am

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, I tried searching and got an error "Validation error, please try again. If this error persists, please contact the site administrator."

Anywho, has there ever been a PortableApps.com Monthly Newsletter? I subscribed to it a long time ago (obviously), and have not seen a single newsletter in my email. Has anyone gotten one?

Global Disabling Of Splash Screens

Submitted by Carraway on November 20, 2006 - 6:50pm

I searched briefly on this topic and found nothing.

Whenever I install a portable app from this site, the first thing I always do is edit the INI file and disable the splash screen. This has gotten tedious after having used these apps for nearly a year, and having installed them over and over on various computers.

zip files no longer available for download

Submitted by rob.vdb@telenet.be on November 20, 2006 - 3:50pm

Hi,
I was just wondering if it still would be possible to have a zipped version of the portable applications available for Downloading.

I post this question because I'm a big fan of portable applications, and I created myself a small programm (downloading +launching).
I also have a website on the program. http://users.telenet.be/Robvdb/PortOffExec.htm

I also used to have some portable applications from this site; such as Portable Firefox, Portable Thunderbird, Portable AbiWord and OpenOffice.org Portable.

But I noticed today that the zip files are no longer available for downloading. Instead the download files are now xxxxx.paf.exe

I am new to the Portable Apps discussions and I must say John, I am incredibly impressed.

What do you have in the works?
(no I am not asking for timelines) just the apps you are slowly working on to eventually get released is all...

Thinstall

Submitted by Nerd on November 16, 2006 - 4:15pm

Thinstall is a client-less application virtualization solution that allows applications to be packaged into simple EXE files that run in user-mode isolated from the host PC without installation or changes to the local desktop’s registry and file system.

"Thinstalled" applications can run on locked-down PCs with no device drivers installed enabling administrators to maintain a secure, clean, and stable user desktop.
