Block unwanted updates

Submitted by Tartempion on November 15, 2017 - 12:47pm

Hi,
is it possible to block automatically unwanted application updates ?
(For example, I don't want to upgrade Firefox to version 57. Even the new Adblock+ became real crap in this release. And the other good extensions such as Noscript, Flashgot, Flashblock and many others are not compatible).

Thanks

Antivirus Scanner for Standalone Systems

Submitted by biiimn2017 on November 15, 2017 - 10:22am

I am trying to find an app that is portable. I have systems that will come back to our factory from the field. And I am trying to find a method and tool(s) to scan them for viruses. These are standalone systems which have not direct internet connection. I have both Windows and Linux systems. I need a way to scan as well as update virus definitions prior to scanning.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Opera 48.0.2685.52 - infinite reconnecting of VPN

I downloaded Opera portable from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/opera_portable

version - 48.0.2685.52

And I have a huge problem with literally infinite reconnecting of built-in VPN.

And there is no difference which server you would choose - Canada, USA, Germany, Netherlands, or "Auto".

At the same time - there is absolutely no such issue in the official setup version of Opera (the same version).

Windows 10: A Portable App as a Standard Program not possible?

Submitted by Blonder_Hansblo... on October 29, 2017 - 11:10am

I´m using a lot of different Portable Apps on my PCs, Notebook and even Tablet.
But it seems to me, that it is not possible, to organize for example Thunderbird or Office Libre as a standard program for one or more spezific file-types like .doc or .eml - and so a doubleklick on a file like xyz.doc does´nt open office libre or Pricelist.eml doesn´t open Thunderbird.
I think, the reason is, that portable apps ar not registered in the registry because they don´t need to be installed.

Is there any workaround to solve my problem?

Outlook.com Appears to Have Blacklisted You

Created an account using my outlook.com email address. Never got the verification email. Created a second account using my gmail.com email address. Got the verification email almost immediately.

I used the term blacklisted because I checked thoroughly, and there was no verification message in my junk mail. Not to mention, I was watching for it.

Did not close properly last time, but who cares?

Submitted by KPAH on October 27, 2017 - 12:41pm

There are two things bugging me about the PortableApps launcher. The first one was when it stopped working from system folders, like ProgramFiles. I believe that should be an on/off feature, not an ultimatum. We portable software enthusiasts are power users, aren't we? But I kinda got used to it.
Another thing that keeps nagging me is that "xyz did not close properly last time" popup. It mostly happens the next portable app launch after I shutdown the PC without quitting the app.
