PeaZip Portable 1.11

Submitted by giorgiotani on January 29, 2008 - 4:02am

Hi, yesterday I released PeaZip Portable 1.11 http://peazip.sourceforge.net/
It is a natively portable compression utility supporting many archive formats like ZIP, TAR, 7Z, PAQ... extracts also ISO, RAR, ACE and many more.
It's available either for 32 and 64 bit Windows and Linux systems.
PeaZip provides also an handy set of tools like: split/join files, wipe files (secure deletion), byte to byte compare files, checksum/hash files with multiple algorithms (CRCs, MD5, SHA family, EDonkey etc), system benchmark, generate random passwords/keyfiles.

Portable Oracle XE

Submitted by vestlink on January 29, 2008 - 2:27am

Hi.

I'm a software developer that uses an Oracle database (10gXE) and have a set of tools that i run to convert data from on ver. of our software to the next. I often have to do the conversion at places with very restricted network access and very limited computer access and rights. Often I'm not permitted to use my own pc at these places but can run programs as notepad++, sqldeveloper from an USB-stick. They work fine.

Manage / remove Appl on launch pad

Submitted by amagrace on January 28, 2008 - 11:32am

PortableApps offers a nice way to add new software, by simply adding the software folder. However, it happens for a few software packages I added the software contains some utilities executables which I believe the main module will call to. However, either I will never run them directly or they must be launched from the main module, it makes no sense to have them appear on launch pad. It only confuses visually.

I'd like to see PortableApps LaunchPad offer a way to selectively remove some icons from the menu (not removing the application folder completely).

windows on usb harddrive

Submitted by jps on January 27, 2008 - 12:42pm

I don`t mean windows pe or bart pe, I mean a hole windows installed on a usb harddrive.

Many people found on google reported that it`s possible to get windows running on a usb harddrive. It`s just a bit complicated to setup.

It`s also possible not to run into legal problems. Some examples therefore:

Gnumeric

Submitted by gijsisok on January 27, 2008 - 8:20am

Gnumeric is a Microsoft Office Excel alternative, it's a part of GNOME.
I think it is also for Windows, and I would like to carry it on my USB Stick.

Auto-Ejection and System Tray Alternative.

First off, I had searched, here, Googol (whoops, I spelled it the right way),and SF.net. I found something, and I do have a U3 drive, but it looks unstable. I know John's working on an auto-eject launcher, but unfortunately, my dad is yelling at me for taking to long to unplug my flash drive now, not in the future. So I would like to request an auto-ejection script and a system tray alternative.

Portable SEO SEM software please

Submitted by cipher on January 26, 2008 - 9:31am

Great work John,

In the last year this is probably the most useful software I have found.
I have almost completely got rid of the need to install ANYTHING apart from windows on my PC... Hurrah!

The remaining Piece of software I have on my PC are:

Coreldraw graphics suite X3. Inkscape & The Gimp are a good replacement but I still like this software - but at more than 500€ I should do. (OK Corel gave me my copy free of charge, but normally it's quite expensive)

Xara X1 - Inkscape again is a good replacement but this has some nice features,i.e. a very easy bevel tool.

Portable Bookmark manager again

Hi there,

I did do a search on the forum and found some discussion there. Most discussions are suggesting using Firefox extensions but I do have some special situation which I think that may apply to many ppl as well. Actually I'd like to add comment to an existing post https://portableapps.com/node/1332 but I cannot find the link to add.

I am using FF at home but my company's standard is IE Sad

And I do not have admin right to add my appl. Even worse, I do not have the right to check the proxy setting so portable FF does not work either.
