GIMP: Open/Save files Windows style

Submitted by zkee on March 14, 2007 - 10:43am

Hi there,

first of all, thanks a million for this superb portable app. Especially the fact that we don't have to install two separate programs (GTK & GIMP) anymore, really helps.

I'm in the process of convincing several people of giving the GIMP a good try, and one of the largest barriers for many to cross, is in fact the GTK menu style. Lots of people don't know any better than their Windows menu, and get completely lost when having to go to "my documents" from C:\.

there's a workaround available for this, as a plug-in, it features in the official gimp plug-in list:

Gimpportable running in batch mode under Windows

Hi,all,
I've got a problem recently.
HowTo send commandline parameter to gimpPortable.exe?
I want to run gimpPortable in batch mode under Windows.
Normal Gimp under linux I start like this:
./gimp-2.2.exe -c -i -d -b '(script-fu-glossy-logo "$1" 100 "Eras" "Shadows 2" FALSE "Shadows 2" FALSE 5 "255 255 255" FALSE "Electric Blue" FALSE "Electric Blue" FALSE "Parque #1" TRUE TRUE 8 8)'

but how do I do under Windows?

Thanks for your reply.

GIMP: Lock out because of missing XLMPARSE.DLL

Submitted by WendyvanDijk on March 2, 2007 - 9:46am

I am not amused.

I am working on a W2K station in a domain where applications are distributed by Zen.
After I used The Gimp - and yes, I let Gimp disable XMLPARSE.DLL and XMLTOK.DLL - and some time later restarting; my system wouldn't let me login to the network. Only local login was possible; to which I am not allowed..
It seems that NAL (Novell Application Launcher) needs the XMLPARSE.DLL and it couldn't find it in the path. A portion of ZEN can't start after that failure, and login is prohibited.

How to install Gimp Animation Package

Submitted by pcfreak on February 3, 2007 - 5:06am

I've got both the install version of Gimpshop and GIMP Portable on my pc. I've been trying for a couple of hours to get the GIMP Animation Package (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121075) installed, but since both versions of GIMP don't write their install path to the registry the GAP won't install. I don't know how to do this since I really wanna use the animation package and I preferably don't wanna install the full version of GIMP and GTK. Any solutions?

improper pathing in gimp portable code

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

lists the path to where users store their windows shell folder data.(desktop, startmenu, my documents, application data, favourites, local settings, etc)

Gimp appears to have a home and desktop shortcut hardcoded to look to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\ for the home icon, but shouldn't the "Home" icon be the windows equivalent "My Documents" and link to wherever that is in the registry key mentioned above?
