GIMPPortable freezes on loading

Submitted by shortee on July 12, 2007 - 8:01am

Hi!

I've got the problem with GIMPPortable that it doesnt even start....it hangs. It stops loading when the progress-bar at startup is about 50%....it then shows "loading Fonts"....but it doesnt finish and starts up.....it seems that it freezes...

Environment: P4 3GHz with Win XP SP2 latest updates and GIMPPortable 2.2.16 on a TrekStor USB-1GB-Stick...and I havent that much more fonts installed....

Any idea what is wrong here?

Thx for any answers,

Regards, Sven

GIMP portable works okay for editing images already saved as standard image files on my computer.
I am running Windows XP Professional and I have two different (Microtek and Hewlett-Packard) flatbed scanners I use at different times to acquire document images.
When I try to use the 'File-Acquire-TWAIN' function to acquire images with either scanner connected and turned on, a small window titled 'Select Source (Not Responding)' appears and GIMP locks up.
When I select the red 'X' in the upper right corner of the small window, an error message appears:

Getting GIMP To Run

Submitted by nakedparrot on July 5, 2007 - 5:05am

Okay, so what am I doing wrong? I have installed at least a couple, if not more, versions of GIMP on my USB drive but to date have not been able to get it to run. It starts, getting as far as Fonts and Search For Data, and then hangs. And no amount of swearing will get it any further.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers!

gimp-remote?

Is there any way to get GIMP Portable to launch gimp-win-remote.exe from the launcher?
I'm working on a portable version of Scribus (yes, I know it's been done) and it needs a path to gimp-remote.exe (I assume, gimp-win-remote.exe on Windows).
Oh, and should I store GhostScript within CommonFiles?

making GIMPs languages easier to change

I like the new (v. 2.2.15) Installer with the ability to install either the english or the multilingual version. But using it I had some ideas to make the language change easier:
What about having the user choosing the exact language at the installation. Or, if I install the multilingual version, have the Lanucher presenting the different languages and delete the ones I don't choose/need. If I find myself needing other languages, I still can reinstall and chose others.
Or make a separate launcher acting as a "language changer"?

What do you think?

Wacom User Q: How to add --no-wintab to Gimp Portable ini file?

Submitted by x999x on June 13, 2007 - 1:33pm

Hi, I've noticed a pretty bad cursor alignment problem using Gimp and my Wacom tablet. Now I've searched high and low online, and found that a simple command-line parameter will solve my problem, "--no-wintab" but here inlies my problem. How do I add this extra command to PortableGIMP?

I've made a shortcut and added the command-line there, so I know this will work, however I cannot access the shortcut from the PortableApps launcher, which for me is a big thorn in my side since soo much work went in to streamlining this package.
