Submitted by Fluff on January 25, 2007 - 3:41pm

I can get ClamWin to work on Vista when it is on a thumbdrive. But when you try to get it to work on the PC its self thats the problem. I get an error when scanning. Saying that access is denied. Anyone know what can be done to fix this?

ClamWin won't start - filename CASE problem (solution)

Submitted by kethd on January 21, 2007 - 4:29pm

When portable software files are moved between computers, the case of the filenames may get changed, for example from "lib" to "LIB". For some portableapps packages, such as ClamWin and Nvu, this will keep the packages from working properly.

In the case of ClamWin, the symptom of this problem is that the portable-apps package splash screen appears promptly, and then the executable tries to launch but immediately vanishes; there is no visible activity after the splash screen.

A log file CLAMWIN.EXE.log is created in ClamWinPortable\App\CLAMWIN\BIN that reads:

clamwin portable says can't install virus definitions

Submitted by gracie on December 3, 2006 - 7:29pm

just installed clamwin portable for the first time. at first, a message comes up saying that there is no virus database, do i want to download the latest, and i say yes, and it begins. but then it says, first, that the version (88.5) is old and eventually says that it cannot install a virus database at all. when i try to do a scan anyway, the scan button is grayed out. Here is the log:

ClamWin: Spyware Dr. Detects clawinportable.exe as Trojan.Popuper.Downloader

Submitted by Hermes on December 2, 2006 - 10:46am

Just to let someone know that Spyware Dr. Detects clawinportable.exe as Trojan.Popuper.Downloader. I did check the file on several multi engine scans and it does come out negative. I have reported the issue to spyware Dr. but I have not had any news yet....

You can find the (Clean) scan result for the possible false positive detection here:

ClamWinPortable crahses

Submitted by kiwichick on December 1, 2006 - 3:34pm

Hi there, I have just installed ClamWinPortable 0.88.5 as part of the PortableApps Suite on a USB 80GB portable hard drive. During installation I received the "You have not yet downloaded Virus Definitions Database". I updated the database. I can select and scan one or more files using the Scan Selected Files button but if I select a folder or a drive letter and use the Scan Selected Files button ClamWin crashes with the "ClamWin Anitvirus has encoutered a problem and needs to close.." error. This doesn't happen if I click the Scan Computer Memory button.

I have downloaded just the ClamWin installation file from PortableApps and installed it independently from the suite but the same thing happens.

ClamWin (FreshClam) 0.88.5 not able to locate msvcr80.dll

I tried to upgrade to ClamWin 0.88.5 today on a Windows 2000 SP4 machine with .Net version 1,0,4322,0 but I keep getting an error:
freshclam.exe - unable to locate dll
the dynamic link library MSVCR80.DLL could not be found in the specified path...

I tried downloading the msvcr80.dll but then I got another error:
freshclam.exe - application error
the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). click ok to terminate the application.

Everything I can find via search engines state that this may be a .Net 2.x issue. Can anyone out there confirm this for me? Thanks.

ClamWin: Norman Antivirus kills Portable ClamAV

Submitted by KingOfDos on November 9, 2006 - 1:30pm

I'm running Norman Antivirus Control (NVC) as virus scanner. When I extracted the Portable ClamAV (ClamWin_Portable_0.88.4.exe) to my harddrive, NVC detected malware inside the PortableClamAV.exe.

You can find a screenshot here:
http://the.pla.ce2.be/_pics/projecten/portablesuite/clamwin-killd-by-nor...

Translation of the (Dutch) text inside the image:
-------------------
Norman Virus Control has found a trojan and placed it in quarantine.

Location: S:\......\ClamWinPortable\ClamWinPortab.exe
Trojan: Zlob.APB

I'm really sure that it's the correct versio

ClamWin: 0.88.5

Submitted by ascii13 on October 24, 2006 - 9:25am

I noticed last week that ClamWin started telling me about updating to 0.88.5 when I update the virus definitions. Is there a new portable version in the works as well? Or, is there a way I can update my portable version to 0.88.5?

Thanks,
Jay
