Plugins, Auto-completions and User Defined Languages location in Notepad++

Submitted by acicovic on December 2, 2017 - 4:26am

Hi,

Thank you for all the work you put into this software. I am coming from a standard Notepad++ installation and I want to install some Plugins, Auto-completions and User Defined Languages in my new portable installation.

Regarding plugins, there are three possible folders:

\Notepad++Portable\Data\Config\plugins\
\Notepad++Portable\App\DefaultData\Config\plugins\
\Notepad++Portable\App\Notepad++\plugins\

About User Defined Languages, I see that my original installation puts them in the root folder. Again, I see 2 possible folders:

Limeroli posted a comment on the release thread for jdkPortable 8 Update 131, indicating that our jdkPortable installer is currently missing a step. Specifically, that it should use "unpack200.exe", which is included in the JDK, to "unpack" several .jar files from the .pack files that come in the JDK installer.

[Fixed] Bug in PortableApps.comInstaller 3.4.7

When pack a plugin installer, PortableApps.comInstaller add an empty appinfo.ini to the package App\AppInfo directory which is not require AFAIK.
This cause the file in the main app will be overwrite when the plugin installed.
It also cause error when the plugin installer is packed again. Because the exist of appinfo.ini, PortableApps.comInstaller treat the package as normal package and complain missing of launcher file, icons etc.

Notepad++ - can't add or update plugins, steps I've done and questions I have

I installed Notepad++ (NPP), possibly, by copying it from another computer and pasting to my PortableApps folder on this one, although it may have been by direct install. If copied, it came from a Vista Business machine and this one I'm trying to add an update to is an XP Professional Service Pack 3.

Can you add 64-bit (x64) Notepad++ binary (SciLexer.dll certificate)?

I was wondering if it was easy/worthwhile adding 64-bit (x64) support to to Notepad++ similar to what you've done with portable Firefox.
I'm asking because the latest 7.3.3 update to Notepad++ doesn't work on my 64-bit Windows 10 OS machine.
Notepad++ 7.3.3 runs fine on my 32-bit Windows 10 OS laptop.
On my 64-bit Desktop, Notepad++ 7.3.3 fails start due to issues with the SciLexer.dll certificate.

Bug in Notepad++ 7.3.1

From the Notepad++ forum:
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/13120/notepad-v7-3-1

Settings/Preferences/Default Directory: Use new style save dialog
Reverts to checked when program restarted
This was OK in version 7.3.0

I'm having the same issue, so you might want to hold off from updating it.

[EDIT] Moved out of Outdated apps thread in order to preserve conversation - mod GC
