Full Operating System for Portable Apps

Submitted by jegarner on February 20, 2011 - 11:01am

Portable Apps has really been a blessing for many of us who have to work on computers other than our own. However, I would like to see PA go a step further in the creation of an entire portable OS.

I am aware that it is very close to that now, and I'm sure that there are those that will argue with me and say that it is it's own OS, but what I'm referring to is an OS, so complete that it is similar to XP Mode in Windows 7.

Configuration of AppnamePortable.ini

Submitted by tapsklaps on February 17, 2011 - 11:59am

The primary purpose of the app, which I want to make portable, is to record internetradio-streams. It's my goal, to create a subfolder called Downloads in AppnamePortable\Data. If the user of the app wish to save streams, per default these streams should be stored in the folder Downloads. Which command I need in this case?

PortableApps.com Launcher and UTF-8 with BOM

Submitted by therealhanuta@web.de on February 16, 2011 - 11:21am

Hi,

I have found an error of PortableApps.com Launcher 2.0 and UTF-8 with BOM.
If AppNamePortable.ini is saved in UTF-8 with BOM, the generated launcher cannot start. If it is saved without BOM all is right.
Please add an comment on this site until the error is resolved: https://portableapps.com/manuals/PortableApps.comLauncher/intro/overview/

Hi!

Please make an video-tutorial with who to make portable an app...
Is no need to "prepare" your desktop, your speech, or something else, just please make a movie with your desktop's activity, when you make portable an app.

That will help all of people (or a big part of) who want to make an portable app.
And, please, don't say me "use the XXX software or YYY software" or "read HERE an THIS".

I readed this tutorial, but... something I don't understand... something more...

[CODING] Help for some code (Steam Portable)

Hi there !
I'm currently looking to improve my Steam Portable launcher, but some dependencies are making me crazy. And that's why I'm posting here, I need some little help :
With my launcher, I'd like to put some multiple regkey handling, that is to say that the user will only put in a .ini file all the registry keys he wants to backup (these keys separated to each other by ||, like in the PortableApplicationTemplate famous on Internet). But what sort of code should I use in order to make my launcher able to manipulate all these keys without any problem, and with one single piece of code ?

Nascent-Project.org Hosting to Shut Down 2011-09-01

Submitted by Patrick Patience on February 14, 2011 - 9:50pm

Just a heads up that unfortunately I'll be shutting down the Nascent-Project.org hosting on September 1, 2011. I figured this is a fair bit a notice to allow any developers still hosting on my server to seek out alternate hosting options. SourceForge is a bit of work, but it does work. Luckily it seems that only Simeon, prapper, and Bart.S have been hosting there in recent months.
