Change PAM system tray icon

Submitted by Rapscallion on March 16, 2009 - 10:07pm

Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but if it was I could not find it.

Is there a way to change the icon of PAM itself. I have 2 different drives with PAM installed, and have modified the drive icon to easily tell them apart in explorer. It would also be handy to be able to distinguish between the 2 different PAM's in the system tray as well (so I know which of the 2 is actually running at a glance).

PAP 2.0+ Idea - Reduce app permissions

Submitted by usbtastic on March 16, 2009 - 6:45am

I'd like the option to launch Portable Apps with reduced privileges similar to the function of DropMyRights.exe by Microsoft (i think the code is open-source, but i could be wrong:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972827.aspx

As I always run as a member of the Administrators Group on my PC, I currently run a few apps with DropMyRights such as Pidgin, Firefox, and most internet-facing apps.

I know there is a 'Run as' option, but this is inconvenient. It would be nice if there was a setting in PAP to strip the admin privileges away from the running apps....

Help with System Plugin (system.dll)

Hello guys.

I'm trying to get the System Plugin work with me.

Everything I use it I, the EXE always that it's used in crashes.

My theory is that either I'm not putting some needed stuff in the script for the System Plugin to work or I've got a corrupt system.dll file.

So if somebody could either look at my script or link to a new download of the system plugin (I can't find it anywhere, I've googled and it does NOT come with NSIS).

Thanks.

Hi:

I have been lurking a while. I do have a couple of suggestions I think would improve Portable Apps. Please return the eject drive to the right-click system tray context menu. Also, I would like a user selected explore from folder option (selectable from the main PA interface) in the right-click system tray context menu. Please give these ideas due consideration.

What about DOS programs?

Submitted by longtex on March 10, 2009 - 5:14pm

This is two questions, basically, because this is pretty much done already.

Well, it's not "done" done, but it's close. Before I proceed, I have a couple of questions.

How much is it “done”? Well, it works. I can copy the executable and data files onto a PA USB stick in the PA directory, and it shows up on the menu, and it launches and runs. I haven't done the full-bore install and all that, and before I do, I need to know:

(1) how does the launched program know the drive letter it's running on?

(2) is there really any interest in this???

First, why am I even doing this?

PortableApp Fowrarding Idea

Before I express my idea, I want to Say that I Apologize if this is in the wrong place.
And Also I don't know if anyone has expressed this Idea at all. If so, I apologize as well.

I am a Portable Apps Freak. I want nearly everything I use to be Portable.
I am running At the moment, 2 Skypes', Foobar2000, Pidgin, Firefox, and Thunderbird, portably.
Anyway, I am going to express this idea as if everyone is an Xp or 2000 User.
Changes can be made to make this work on vista.

A portable App That makes Other portable apps Portable.
