How to Get FF Portable to open URL's from other programs instead of IE !?

Submitted by Dany25 on June 6, 2009 - 11:35am

Hello,

i'm using Windows Server 2008 and i have the problem that if i get a link via ICQ, IRC, XMPP or whatever it gets openend with Internet Explorer.. it can't be changed at Software Configuration because Win2008 doesn't understand that FF exists .. is there anything that i could do to make links that have been sent to me are being opened with FF ?

Thank you!

It's not saving the favicons of websites (imported bookmarks anyway)(one exception - the portable apps site; the FF link folder bookmarks also show the icons). Not sure if that's an FF issue or just a problem with the portable version, but I wanted to mention it.

It has come to my attention that MicroSoft windows update adds (silently) an Firefox addon called "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.0" which function is to enable software do silent install software on the machine. Somehow the addon was added to my FireFox portable, so not all users may have this. It's a bad thing that this addon enables software to be installed silently, but it becomes worse..

IT Dept. concerns with my portable apps

Hi folks,

I am in trouble with my IT department for using my USB to run Firefox at work. I am getting grilled tomorrow for disciplinary actions--anyone care to explain how running Firefox portable is not a security risk for the network so I have some ammunition? I work in a public library BTW.

Thanks a million.

Add-ons are not updating when Firefox is restarted

Submitted by Acharn on May 31, 2009 - 7:32am

I just found my USB drive with PortableApps on it and decided I needed to update Portable Firefox. I also decided to update all the add-ons and add a couple of new ones.

Thanks to the FAQ, I downloaded the latest version (3.0.10) and installed it using the PortableApps menu. The program runs fine, and when I searched for updates to the add-ons it downloaded them and ran through the usual installation steps. One didn't update because of a file error, but I'll get that later. I also added Tabs Mix Plux and Xmarks.
