Request for Firefox 7.0b4 or b5 Portable

Submitted by Sovereign on September 7, 2011 - 10:27am

In light of the reasonable memory improvements in Firefox 7, which have not only been talked about quite a bit, but also noticeable to me, I would really like to see Firefox 7.0b4 or 7.0b5 (which should be out within a couple of days) made available in a PortableApps version.

Even as a beta, I would just assume use Firefox 7 rather than wait another 2 or 3 weeks for it reach "release" status.

Thank you in advance.

I somehow achieved a highly unsecure situation on one of my systems and can't even remediate it now.
Clean uninstal also seems useless for a portable application, isn't it?

- Had an old Firefox (presumably 4.x) running on a Win XP system.
- Unistalled it, but without deleting cache and presets.
- Had a Firefox Protable installation on a USB (at that time 5.x, now 6.x) and decided to simply copy it to my HDD in order to avoid re-installing all addons and so on

Summary of add-ons / extensions for Firefox Portable Legacy v.2.0.0.20

Submitted by fergus on September 6, 2011 - 1:35am

This question is about Firefox Portable Legacy v.2.0.0.20 but hope it will not be dismissed as irrelevant. I use this and Thunderbird v.2.0.0.24 as I cannot stand the more modern versions.
Usually I use Firefox on a stick on my own/ family machines with Admin privs so Flash and other add-ons get loaded almost invisibly.
Now on a borrowed machine I cannot listen to the BBC or Classic FM (radio) or watch YouTube videos (some/ all?) or watch BBC TV ... probably other missing utilities.

Importing favourites from IE7

Submitted by davidwil on September 5, 2011 - 2:11pm

When I try to import favourites from IE7 I get an error in Firefox Portable 6.0:
"A script on the page may be busy or it may have stopped responding - script:chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3508"

In an attempt to solve this problem I deleted all the Firefox folders from my flash drive, downloaded FirefoxPortable_6.0.1_English.paf.exe to the desktop from the link on portableapps.com and reinstalled Firefox Portable 6.0 on the flash drive. The problem remained.

I am using Windows XP Home on my desktop computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

How to enable cache and set it to be at the FXPortable directory

Submitted by galacticninja on September 5, 2011 - 6:51am

I'm using Firefox Portable in a TrueCrypt-encrypted file container. This functions exactly like a flash disk (once a password is supplied and the file container is opened, it is mounted by TrueCrypt as a drive at My Computer.) Since it is actually in a hard disk, and not in a flash drive, reads and writes are not an issue. Because of this, I would like to enable Firefox Portable's cache.

How do I set Firefox Portable to have its cache enabled and have it in the Firefox Portable directory?

Can Google "Voice and Video Chat" be permenantly installed in PortableApps FireFox

Submitted by sweetc on September 5, 2011 - 2:22am

Hi!

I am able to run the Google "Voice and Video Chat" within my FireFox PortableApps program.

However, I must reinstall the program each time I initially open up the FireFox program from the USB.

Is there anyway to always run the Google "Voice and Video Chat" program from within the Portable Apps FireFox program after installing it once.

Thanks in advance for your reply.
