Addon Bork: Recovery?

Submitted by seremina on November 9, 2009 - 7:12pm

I was trying out 3 new addons and when I restarted Firefox Portable, it crashed. I tried launching it again. Crashed. I can normally solve things on my own, but this one has me stumped. There's no Safe Mode in Portable Firefox (or I can't find it), so I can't figure out which addon is borking it. What do I do?

Firefox Portable versions

Submitted by PortableUser2009 on November 7, 2009 - 12:04pm

Hi,

currently I run Firefox Portable 3.0.15.
Now I saw that Firefox Portable 3.5.5 has been released.
So I checked it out and it worked fine for me in my test enviroment.
After putting it to my Portable Suite it was recognized to be version 3.0.7.

Now I am a bit confused.

All versions 3.0.x were automatically updated to 3.0.y so far (f.e. 3.0.14 to 3.0.15).

But there are the versions 3.5.z as well.

Which version is the actual one?

Local Firefox profile changed by Fx Portable

Submitted by chrizio on November 7, 2009 - 11:01am

The machines local firefox profile folder shows signs of Firefox Portable activities:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Extensions-BackupByFirefoxPortable
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Crash Reports-BackupByFirefoxPortable

Is this a result of well-known update bug or some other issue?

I give up trying to fight the automatic updates.

I know that there's some nitpicky legal reason that John can't turn off automatic updates, that's fine.
But (and this has happened to me before) Firefox just auto-updated itself to 3.5.5.
I looked at my settings, and I ALWAYS set my Tools>Options>Advanced>Update so that updating Firefox is UNchecked.
It's just that Firefox apparently doesn't care, it still autoupdates.

So I give up trying to fight it. I'm not re-installing FFP to fix any potential problems from the automatic update.

Firefox 355

Submitted by davido on November 6, 2009 - 8:20am

Hi, I have just updated from 3014 to 355 and find that when I start firefox it will not initiate the network connection, it just gives me a 'cannot find server'and I have to separately make the network connection.

This does not happen with previous versions.

I realise its probably something trivial that I am missing but cannot see it.

Thanks for any help.

Can Firefox Portable Apps be used on Linux?

Submitted by lunar on November 2, 2009 - 2:42pm

Greetings All!

I'm a total newbie when it comes to using linux, usbs, and portable apps. So if I sound ignorant, please forgive me. I don't even know if I'm in the right forum!

Here's my dilemma:
1. I have a desktop with XP and I use Firefox as my browser.
2. I just bought an Asus EEEPC 1000 with linux (xandros).
3. I do not want to download XP on the netbook.

My questions are:
1. Will the firefox portable apps (on an usb pny 4gb) work with the netbook?
2. If not, why?
3. If so, how?
