Firefox Portable

multiple instances of an app

Submitted by yodar on August 10, 2009 - 3:31pm

my normal mode is to be running 2 instances of firefox, with the 2nd one started in sandboxie. i use the 2nd one for random surfing/searching and also clicked links in emails open in it.

when i try to open a 2nd ffportable in the sandbox, i get a message telling me to shut down the other instance.

is this really a limitation of ffportable vs regular?

Help Menu "Check for updates..." malfunctioning

Submitted by skweiler on August 9, 2009 - 4:26pm

When I go to the help menu there is no Check for updates... option. Instead there is a "loading" animation next to the words "Downloading Firefox 3.5.2." I have NOT checked for updates, but it automatically starts downloading. The download never says that its finished, but it has updated itself automatically when I restart Firefox. The weird thing about this is that I have disabled automatic updates under the Tools>Options menu. This is a portable edition running off a flash drive. This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't want to update to Firefox 3.5.2.

AVG ****ware toke over FF Address field search

Submitted by DreamLogic on August 9, 2009 - 5:33am

AVG @#$%!ware has taken over PortableFF Address bar search even though I don't have add-on or plug-in installed on my PC or in portable profile

what file do have to edit to fix this?

*EDIT*
the long story... I was over friends house who is even-less technically inclined than me. He had AVG antiware install on his PC.

I loaded up my PortableFF just to check my e-mails during this I disabled some local add-ons that where slowing things down restarted PortableFF ...when I exited FF I got crash dialog but didn't think anything of it at the time.

Firefox Lacking Speed when it comes to using it on slow compuers

I always use firefox portable whenever I go on a computer, Except when I'm on a slow computer. I found that Firefox takes about 6.72 times longer to load pages using DSL than opera@USB. I tried using a fresh copy of firefox portable (without adons) and it was still roughly 3 times slower (it varied) on loading pages. Until I fix this problem, I'll use opera@usb.

Does anyone know how to improve FFP's speed?

PS I type this to you using Opera@USB

Sup every1. I am brand spankin' new to ffp. I'm not a developer, programmer, Tech expert or the like, but I'm interested and am learning very quickly most "how to do's" as I'm not as knowledgeable....yet. I joined PortableApps.com to learn.

Hi!

Great web site !

Please, could you add a warning if someone click on "firefox.exe" instead of "firefoxportable.exe" saying "Hey you donkey ! Use the launcher to keep FF portable !" Wink

Thanks,

Steve

Google Gears Portable now available on addons.mozilla.org

Submitted by tvierling on August 4, 2009 - 3:05pm

I went to some pretty careful lengths to put this together so as to fall under USC 17 fair use exemptions, but I believe this is legal to do, so here you go!

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13492/

This version of Gears installs and works in Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition, as well as any non-Administrator account in a normal Firefox installation. This is because it installs into the user profile, NOT system-wide.
