Trouble Installing

Submitted by littledrummerboy on July 25, 2008 - 12:19pm

I feel really bad posting here, since it looks like everybody else knows what they're talking about, and I don't really know anything about computers. So sorry in advance.

Here's the problem: Every time I'm installing the program an error report comes up that says something to the effect of "problem writing to the file 'classic.jar.'

I tried installing FF2 instead, and the same thing happened, though with a different .jar. I'm deeply sorry for asking what I'm sure is a stupid question, but I don't have any idea what to do.

Windows 2000 Firefox file types

Submitted by Francisco6x on July 24, 2008 - 2:30pm

Firefox Portable > Tools > Options > Advanced > System Defaults > Check Now
set Windows 2000 > Tools > Folder Options... > File Types > HTM (and others) > open
to "C:\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\firefox.exe" -requestPending -osint -url "%1"

Why not
to "C:\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe" -requestPending -osint -url "%1" ?

Portable FF3: How do I remove "new homepages" from add-ons/extensions?

Submitted by davidgeisbush on July 24, 2008 - 11:16am

Lovin' FF3 but hatin' the fact that so many add-ons/extensions create new home pages that launch when I start FF3. I don't see these additional URLs in my tools/homepage list (/en-US.start2.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official). What gives? Any idea how to keep these from launching without removing the add-ons?

Add-ons that are creating home pages:
Download Helper
FlashGot
FireShot Pro (though it may just be complaining because I like the free version)
Yapta
FireFox Companion for Ebay

FAQ #3 WishList Item

Submitted by portapppaul on July 24, 2008 - 7:32am

I've only been using the PA Suite for a couple of weeks but I love it! I've added a few extra apps, including my old pal Pegasus Mail. The only problem I have yet to solve is how to link FF mailto:s to Pegasus Mail. I've tried the old trick of creating a USER.JS file pointing to PM's WSENDTO but no luck. If there is no solution yet (as per FAQ #3), I fondly hope that one is forthcoming.

On the other hand, if someone here has a solution, please post it!

Incorrect version number broadcasted in 3.0.1?

Submitted by GobberGo on July 22, 2008 - 12:29pm

I just upgraded to FF portable 3.0.1 from 3.0 using a fresh download from portableapps. When I loaded the application for the first time it took me to a welcome screen saying I am running Firefox 2.0.0.14 and saying I should upgrade.

Help > About says I'm running 3.0.1, but Firefox Addons page says I need to upgrade to install addons.

Is the installation broadcasting an incorrect version number? How can I check?

Help. Clicking on a BOOKMARK in PFF results in XPCOM_CORE.DLL Error.

I've been running PFF 2.0.0.8 in Win98SE with no major problems up until today when PFF hung 3 times in rapid succession. This motivated me to upgrade to PFF v3, which would not start at all. So I reinstalled PFF v.2.0.0.8 and it did start. However, while it does start, and the "about:config" entered in the address bar works and, from that address, I can click on the HOME button (an html page I created that is stored in a directory in the Firefox directory) and that page comes up.
