Could we consider moving the default cache to the Temp directory?

Submitted by ki4jgt on May 20, 2018 - 1:42pm

I don't know where the current write directory for FFP is but I'm assuming it's on my flash drive as whenever I visit YouTube, the light on my drive becomes a morse code beacon and doesn't stop flashing at all. With the limited number of read/writes a USB drive has, would it not be better to move the browser cache to the local hard drive by default on FFP?

Run Portable, Want To Quantum Desktop

Submitted by Theo1352 on May 5, 2018 - 1:46pm

I have been using Portable on a USB drive for some 6 months now, have configured it to my preferences. Thought this was the best way to get to know the new FF.

I will continue to use Portable when I travel on all my laptops, but want to add a permanent desktop version from Mozilla.

I have Waterfox (current) as my default, also have FF ESR (current) on my desktop, as well as Basilisk (Pale Moon derived, current). These were stop gaps while I played with Quantum.

Now, I want to use Portable to configure Quantum on my desktop.

Not launching java

Submitted by OFox32 on April 18, 2018 - 8:27pm

I have been using portable Firefox 51 and portable Java 8u161 for the past few months and it's been working great until yesterday. Now I have to have Java 8u171 for it to work. I don't have Java installed on my computer so it's not a conflict. I am using a mozilla.cfg file to configure firefox to not update or look to the Operating system for addons. I can't use java 8u171 because the app is not compatible with it, it requires java 8u161 or 8u152. if I visit www.java.com and click verify java it just shows a blank white spot.

Can I force 64 bit?

Submitted by Lorry on April 14, 2018 - 4:39am

Hiya.

I have 2 versions of Firefox Portable running on this Windows machine and one loads as 64 bit, and the other as 32 bit. Whatever I do to the second one, it always loads as 32 bit. The ini files are the same, I have even (in desperation) tried changing the FirefoxDirectory to App\firefox64 but nope, even though the image shows as firefox64/firefox.exe it's still a 32 bit image.

Is there a way to force it to load up the 64 bit one? An opposite of AlwaysUse32Bit=true maybe?

This is driving me kind of insane because there seems to be no logic at all to it.

[Fixed] FirefoxPortable.exe launcher does not remain running while the Firefox updater runs

When doing an update using Firefox's internal updater running within Firefox Portable, the FirefoxPortable.exe launcher does not properly remain running through the update and the app's close after the update. This can result in some empty directories and registry keys left behind on the local machine.

PortableApps.com Platform users that update via the platform's internal updater and users who manually download each release to update are unaffected by this issue.

Firefox Portable doesn't start - other portable apps work fine

Submitted by ulf12 on March 18, 2018 - 4:49am

Mysterious phenomenon on a Asus VivoBook S (Windows 10 Pro Version 1709, Build 16299.309, up to date, BIOS up to date): Firefox Portable - no matter which version, no matter which user profile - doesn't start. It pops up briefly and then closes again immediately. Not even a safe start (= with activated shift key) is possible. Permanently installed Firefox works fine, other portable apps - including browsers like Chrome, Opera, Maxthon, Seamonkey, Quipzilla - too. No problems on other laptops (Acer, Toshiba, HP).
