Firefox Portable not Recognized by Yahoo Mail Beta

Submitted by dennis parrott on February 1, 2007 - 12:58am

i hope i haven't just overlooked this topic someplace... if i did, mea culpa.

i have used Portable FF 1.5.0.? for a long time to access Yahoo!s mail "beta". i got a spiffy new 2gb USB stick and decided to load the new "suite" package.

i have FF 2.0.? loaded on my laptop and it works with the Yahoo! mail beta site. (and continues to do so...)

Yahoo! whines that i need mozilla 1.7 or later (...and silly me, i figure that FFP 2.0 meets that requirement...) when i use FFP from the suite off of my new USB stick.

Firefox closing

Submitted by GenericHuman on January 31, 2007 - 12:51pm

I've been runnning FirefoxPortable 1.5.0.9 comfortably for a while now up until yesterday evening.
Today, opening firefox through the firefoxportable.exe, on entering a site either manually or bookmarked firefox just closes, no warning or error report.
Installed another FirefoxPortable folder and copied the App and Data folder from the first one into the new folder, started up, had all my passwords and bookmarks and this worked fine.

Any ideas as to why the previous one started crashing?

multiple firefox portable?

Submitted by sgp on January 30, 2007 - 8:36am

I have three users on the same PC, and I would like to give each one Firefox Portable. Can one installation of Firefox Portable support 3 different users, each one with their own settings, cache, cookies? Note that multiple users could have FF portable open at the same time, since the PC is Windows XP with fast user switching enabled. Or should I instead install 3 different FF portables, one in each user's own home folder?

Accents problem

Submitted by Tartulho on January 27, 2007 - 5:09am

Hi!

I'm having trouble with accents, they don't get displayed correctly when I type them. For eg., this should be an e acute: ´´e

I'm using FF 2.0 but this also happened on v1.5.X

I tried to change the character encoding but the results are the same (tried western 8859-1 and 15 and some others from south Europe).

Thanks for any help!

small question

Submitted by Green Hat Linux on January 26, 2007 - 5:22pm

what would it take to change the external (and possibly internal) names of Firefox Portable?

the reason i am asking is that as of today, when i try to load FfP at school, everything loads well, and just as it finishes loading my home page, FfP terminates, i am 99% positive that this is because of some new script that the school has added to the systems, most likely some sort of simple "target and terminate" app that only looks for firefox.exe and the like in the processes list and could be fooled by renaming it, how hard would it be to change it? thank you.
