Cannot copy Firefox to another drive...

Submitted by twnty3svn on April 30, 2006 - 12:17am

I just setup my Portable FireFox 1.5.0.2 on my hd with all extentions and themes. I then tried to copy it to my USB, and don't know (also can't find any info on any forums) if its a known problem, but it won't load from the USB.

I need it clik on the icon a few times and delete a few processes from task manager before it will load. And when it does, some extensions and themes aren't loaded.

It works fine if I set everything up from scratch from the USB. The same problem occurs when i copy my setup PFF to another USB drive.

Can anyone tell me if its a limitation of PFF or am i doing something wrong.

It looks like you did not update the .nsi for the pluginsdirectory new location?

PluginsEnvironment:
;=== Set the plugins directory if we have a path
StrCmp $PLUGINSDIRECTORY "" UserProfileEnvironment
IfFileExists "$PLUGINSDIRECTORY\*.*" "" UserProfileEnvironment
System::Call 'Kernel32::SetEnvironmentVariableA(t, t) i("MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH", "$EXEDIR\$PLUGINSDIRECTORY").r0'

Opening File Associations

Hi Guys,

I had a question, with the new Portable Fire Fox, is there a way to set portably which programs will open my torrents? for example when on a site the program always asks me. I set it to never ask again but now it keeps on asking me to show it the application exe. Is there a file I can manually change to automatically select things like foxit pdf reader and utorrent for torrents?

The next questions I have, is there a file viewing extension for Firefox? this is so that I can quickly look into my folders to check the current version of file I am downloading?

Migrating from normal Portable FF 1.5.0.2 to the U3 version?

Submitted by MrChris on April 26, 2006 - 6:24pm

I currently have Portable FF 1.5.0.2 on my normal 2GB non-u3 drive. I now have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro U3 and have downloaded/installed the u3 version of FF from u3.com but how can I migrate all my extensions from the current version to the U3 version? Or is it just best to restall all my extensions? Im not new to this stuff but I am new to this U3 thing.

Thanks,

MrChris

Editing Portable FF

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 25, 2006 - 9:59pm

I have been having trouble modifying my portable firefox, I dont know if this is "allowed" by the creators, but I cant even use the INIs. Well, I can edit them but as soon as I restart Firefox, they revert to the old version.
My Main problem is that I am trying to edit the loading screen that is the picture of Portable FF and the USB cable, I edited and overwrote the file but when i Loaf Firefox, the old picture always appears. is there an imbedded file that I need to change? Please help me.

MS Word documents....open in Firefox?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 25, 2006 - 6:19pm

I am still new to Firefox but I am loving it. Especially now I carry it with me on my flash drive. One thing I would like out of it would be able to view MS Word documents in the browser so I wont have to download and then view them on MS Word. Also it would be nice to be able to view Powerpoints on Firefox if possible. My work computer doesn't have those programs so it would be nice to just be able to view them in Firefox for simplicity.

Thanks,
Neil

Running a PDF viewing in Portable Firefox

Hi all,

I'm sure I'm not thet first one who's wanted some sort of PDF solution from Portable Firefox, so I figured I'd post what I came up with.

1) I downloaded Foxit, the portable PDF reader, and dropped it in PortableFirefox\firefox.

2) In Firefox, I went to the download options, chose 'plug-ins', and disabled the PDF mime-type.

3) After I'd done this, I opened a PDF on the web, and told it to open using Foxit (by pointing it at the Foxit location), and to remember the preference.

4) Finally, I edited PortableFirefox\profile\Mimetypes, and I removed the path for the Foxit executable, so that the part pertaining to the Foxit reader read as follows:
