Can we set the new ff portable to cache on the computer?

Submitted by netchicken on July 22, 2009 - 4:56pm

In the earlier versions I could do the following..
I set the cache to the temp file on the computer browser.cache.disk.parent_directory; C:\\WINDOWS\\Temp\\Temporary Internet Files

This meant that the flash drive didn't work so hard, as the pages were being cached on the local machine and deleted out afterwards. It made FF run faster, as the flash drive slowed it down. As well there was less wear on the drive itself, having a limited lifespan.

Profile on other volume

Hello guys,

I am "playing" with Portable Firefox so we can make an easy solution for on our network. Let's say I want the following situation:

- C:\ volume (local): Firefox Portable executables
- D:\ volume (network mapping): Firefox profile

I already tried this with a FirefoxPortable.ini with the following settings:

[FirefoxPortable]
FirefoxDirectory=App\firefox
ProfileDirectory=D:\Firefox
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
PluginsDirectory=Data\plugins
FirefoxExecutable=firefox.exe
AdditionalParameters=
LocalHomepage=
DisableSplashScreen=false

Where is Firefox Portable's temp folder?

Does FFP use the user's default folder at

C:\Documents and Settings\*User*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

or does it make use of a special folder? The reason I'm asking is because I sometimes find that my anti-virus picks up stuff that is left from sites I visited. When I clean these folders, it doesn't always seem to help.

I use FFP's built-in private data cleaner, as well as the Piriform CCleaner program.

Not truly independent. Firefox portable is not truly independent.

Firefox portable is not truly independent. It cannot be run at the same time as the non-portable version. Trying to do that gives this error message: "Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other instances of Firefox before launching Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition."

Firefox (Portable?) vs. Amazon.com

Is it just me, or does Amazon.com not like Firefox (Portable?) too much?

My wife's reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series, and asked me to order the second book online. I'm like, OK, fire up Firefox, hit Amazon.com... I got this funny "Associates Stripe" on the top that was acting funny, so I tried to disable it - crash. Went back in, figured I'd leave it alone, pulled up the page for the second Dark Tower book... crash.

Icon keeps disappearing

Lets start with a screenshot.

As you can see, FireFox is open but there is no icon visible in the superbar. It disappears like 20 times a day but I'm unable to find a way to reproduce it. However, it reappears as soon as I click on it. But sometimes (maybe if the icon disappears while mimized) I can only bring it back with Alt+Tab.
