[Closed] "another instance of Firefox is already running" but it isn't

Submitted by sortableapps on December 24, 2020 - 12:19pm

Running Firefox Portable 84.01 on a Windows 10 machine.

Suddenly yesterday, when launching Firefox Portable, I receive the error: "Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other instances of Firefox before launching Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition."

Flash post Jan 12

Good Day,
Thank you for making this great product available. I have been able to get it working here on a few machines. To get it working I had to install Adobe Flash on the machines on which it will run. Then after Flash is installed I copy NPSWF64_32_0_0_465.dll to the firefoxportable\data\plugins folder.

Is this what others are doing? With this method will Flash continue to work post Jan 12? My understanding is that Adobe has a switch already present to prevent their installed FlashPlayer from working on Jan 12th.

Thank you

Download for Mozilla Firefox ESR, Portable Edition 68.9.0?

Submitted by andkon on December 21, 2020 - 2:28am

I see the article for Mozilla Firefox ESR, Portable Edition 68.9.0: https://portableapps.com/news/2020-06-03--firefox-portable-esr-68.9.0-re...

The download link in the article goes to the main page for Firefox ESR which (unfortunately for me) has the most recent version (78.6.0): https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-esr

[Closed] Firefox Developer address bar: Page actions popup is empty and Bookmark this page button missing

Submitted by goveto on December 19, 2020 - 6:55pm

I just updated Firefox Developer Portable to 85.0 Beta 1, and I'm having the following issues in the address bar.

1. When you click Page Actions (3 horizontal dots), the pop-up shows an empty box.
2. Bookmark this page star button is missing.

Things I've tried.

1. In a new Windows Sandbox. I installed a new copy of Firefox Developer Portable 85.0 Beta 1 and still get the same behavior.
2. In a new Windows Sandbox. I installed a new copy of Firefox Developer 85.0b1 directly from Mozilla and do not get the same behavior. Everything works as it should.

[Fixed] Firefox Portable gets an error when turning off automatic updates

Submitted by frapper on December 18, 2020 - 1:10pm

In the latest Firefox (regular) and FF ESR the updating options have been changed. Now the only "option" is "automatically install updates". If you try to tick the other option "check for updates but let you choose to install them" this warning box pops up "Firefox encountered an error and didn’t save this change. Note that setting this update preference requires permission to write to the file below. You or a system administrator may be able resolve the error by granting the Users group full control to this file.

Could not write to file: {$path}"

Firefox Portable version 83 recognised as version 78

Submitted by WhysItSaySo on December 9, 2020 - 6:56pm

Hi all, had a quick look around support forums / Google / DDG but can't seem to find others having a similar problem.

I'm using the latest portable versionof Firefox (83). Under Help > About Firefox, it identifies itself as Firefox 83.0 (64-bit). However when I log onto Shopify, they identify my browser as Firefox 78 and recommend an update. I then check some of those 'What's my browser?' websites which also identify it as FIrefox 78. They however also incorrectly identify my OS as Windows 10 when it's 7, so go figure.

Firefox ESR installs well in WindowsXP but just exits with no error message

I just got the FirefoxPortableESR_78.5.0_English.paf.exe file and the PortableApps.com files and installed on my ancient Sony laptop that is running Windows XP (last updated edition). The PortableApps installs well and shows me the FireFox app inside the list. I run it (both as user and as administrator) , it puts up the Firefox splash screen then exits with no error message. I have asked that errors go to the "log file" but I cannot find the location of the log file.

Is there some magic setting to get it to run on WindowsXP?

[Fixed] Newer versions of Firefox Portable and Thunderbird don't correctly support taskbar pinning

It looks like the way Firefox handles its AppID changed recently which broke taskbar pinning with the PA.c Platform. I've put together an updated Firefox Portable launcher that will properly allow existing and new pins to work again. It's a zip file with an updated launcher and the necessary code.

Please let me know how it works for you.
