clean installation of Firefox Portable version 3.0.6

Submitted by alex807 on February 16, 2009 - 8:56am

Hi. I just want to clarify something about a clean installation of Firefox Portable version 3.0.6. After installing the portable version into a folder on drive D:, a folder is created in C:\Documents and Settings\A\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox. If I erase the folder, the next time I launch ff portable, the folder is recreated. Does anybody have any idea as to why this happens?

Submitted by microch on February 14, 2009 - 11:05am

hi all

hope someone can help me as i am going nuts.

currently using v 3.0.6 portable. in the past proxies used to work fine, but now when i set firefox to use proxy it never uses the proxy settings even though they are activated and stick.

connection is allways direct as if there is not proxy set.

i checked prefs.js and looks good - has to be anyways as settings stick even when restarting firefox but just dont work i.e. are ignored.

hope anyone experienced the same and has a solution.

lookinf forward to any hints - tks

Default browser will not stick

Have it set to always check if FX is the default browser, but the check mark will not stick in Portable 3.0.0.5. This has occurred 4 times on 4 different public computers whereby attempting to open a link from thunderbird results in internet explorer opening.

FYI, the same occurrs in portable TB 2.0.0.16 in that the default check mark will not stick.

Can't install IconPack in Portable Firefox: "Install script not found"

Submitted by brookssw on February 12, 2009 - 10:27am

Hey All,

Try as I might, I've been unable to get any iconpack to install in Firefox Portable. I've tested the same iconpacks in "regular" firefox, and even firefox_thinstall, and they worked fine in those. When I install it, I get the following:

***************************************
Firefox could not install the file at

because: Install script not found
-204
***************************************

I've tried the following:
Install the xpi directly from the site: same error
Save xpi locally, then drag/drop into FFP window: same error

Opening browser

Submitted by just_james on February 12, 2009 - 9:35am

Ok, anytime I open a link in an email or on Thunderbird, Firfox pops up like it has none of my settings. I have to go open Firefox first, then click on the link to use the portable app as my browser. I have tried multiple times to set Firefox as my default without success. Firefox is not installed on the computer either, just on the flash. Any ideas?

You CAN have multiple users (fairly easily too)

It's real simple to have multiple profiles. Just rename your profile folder (in the Data folder) to profile_WHATEVER, make a new folder called profile_OTHERNAME and dump your profile.YourProfileName contents into this new folder. The one you want to use, you drop the _ and everything after it. The profile that's in the folder just called "profile" will be the selected one. A bit of effort, yeah, but a solution.

Need to uninstall Firefox Portable and reinstall on USB flash drive. Windows Vista does not show it as an installed program

Submitted by alanbala on February 9, 2009 - 12:30pm

I inadvertently installed Firefox Portable on my hard drive, when I really wanted to install it on a USB Flash Drive. Both Firefox and Firefox Portable installed on my hard drive. I wanted to start over, so I went to the Vista "Uninstall Program" option and neither were listed as installed programs. How do I get Vista to uninstall, or is there an "Uninstall.exe" file available for Firefox?

Another question — Firefox won't accept the installation of Adobe Flash Player as an add-on. Any suggestions?
