Firefox Portable

major slowdown lately

Submitted by boombass on October 30, 2006 - 1:28pm

I have been using Firefox Portable for a while now, and it seems to be much slower lately. I notice the little blue LED on my USB flash drive flickers on and off periodically, as if information is being read from and written to the drive during my surfing sessions. This happens at the weirdest times, like when I'm typing a message in gmail. I don't think this happened as much when I started using Portable Firefox, but I can't be sure. Maybe it started when I updated to version 1.5.0.7?

My flash drive is a OCZ Mini-Kart 2.0 GB. I am using it on a USB 2.0 compatible port.

Any ideas? Could it be the new version? Is there a way I can prevent it from reading and writing to the drive so much?

Splash Extention Difficulties

Submitted by campsoup1988 on October 30, 2006 - 11:57am

Im trying to use FireFox's Splash Extention, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2995/ to create my own Splash page, but because it is on my portable drive, my drive letter sometimes changes, either from E:\ G:\ or K:\ depending on which computer I use, but the Splash Extention talkes the full file name directory ( E:\... image.jpg) instead of just (\image.jpg)

Thanks for your help,

difficulty closing

Submitted by Miles on October 30, 2006 - 12:41am

Using thumb drive SunDisk U3 2gb with FFP & TBP installed, not U3 apps.

Attempt to close the drive by first closing U3 icon. But when click on Safely Remove Hardware icon, it complains "the device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try later." Programs on the thumb have been closed.

How to install Flashplayer & Shockwave in FF

Submitted by Miles on October 29, 2006 - 11:51pm

Evidently FFP does not include these two. I have been told that they are avaible as extensions for the portable as opposed to plugins. Regardless, can't find any info on Adobe's site so downloaded and attempted to install and receive window "Could not execute." And "windows can't find I:\(the thumb drive)\system\app\3c9f7b~1/exec\ FF\FF.exe.)

Also tried moving it to the thumb drive and installing from there, with same result. Files are shockwave_installer_slim.exe and install_flash_player.exe

Run along with regular FireFox

Submitted by RAitch on October 29, 2006 - 10:19pm

Is there any way to be able to run portable firefox along side regular firefox? I have a USB drive that I run FF from... but also connect it at home. My wife also uses this computer and often leaves several windows open. This prevents me from running the portable version because firefox.exe is already loaded.

Is there any way to be able to run both at the same time?

Can I use Citrix ICA client with Portable Firefox?

Submitted by jacobthooft on October 29, 2006 - 3:41pm

I have trouble getting acces to my compnay Intranet using Firefox Portable via the Citric application. I can't install the neccesary ICA client.
My company laptop has been 'closed' by the ICT department so I can't install software on it.

I am a fan of the Portable Apps Tunderbird and Firefox.
They allow me to send e-mail and surf the web from my company laptop when connected to other than the company intranet.
