Using Firefox Portable on work computer that runs IE?
Just wondering if it is possible.

Just wondering if it is possible.
Portable Firefox works just fine without any extensions. But when I
eventually installed upto 7-8 extensions it ceased to startup on a
different computer. Instead the windows Task Manager shows Firefox.exe
at 9,000KB of Memery usage continuously. Ultimately, I had to move the
extension folders to some other directory and start firefox without
any ext. Then if I install the extensions it works. But it reappears
on a different system and so on.
The extensions I use are following:
1. DownThemAll
2. ScrapBook
3. Google Toolbar
4. IE View
5. Video Downloader
6. Stumble Upon
7. Orkut Scrap Easy
"Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other instances of Firefox before launching Portable Firefox."
The "FirefoxPortable.ini" file has an entry to allow both "regular" and "portable" FF to run simultaniously, by changing the "AllowMultipleInstances=" to TRUE. This TRUE flag will create this annoying error message in FFP, if I already have a FFP open and try to open a new instance via a windows shortcut. It will complain, that an other firefox is already running, and I should close it first.
If I leave this flag the default "false", then the error is gone in FFP, but suddenly you can not open the regular FF (if FFP is open), because the same error will appear.
... Can't wait for John and the good group to release the next portable version!
THANK YOU ALL!
Hey
problem:
I stuck my usb drive into my comp at work today and when i tried to run Firefox and Thunderbird portable using pstart (then directly) the .exe file just deletes itself...
The base .exe file in the apps folder is still there but this appears to be a raw version without any portable apps gadgets (or my bookmarks/email for that matter)
Tried copyiong over the .exe files from a friends drive only to have them dissappear again! (tried this like 3 times now...)
any ideas?
note: this thread is also under the thunderbird suport forum
I have just started to use Firefox Poatable and it worked great the first day, but now have my workplace updated their AntiVirus program and it finds Win32/Nuvens.X!Trojan in the FirefoxPortable.exe. Have tried dowloading it remotely on my own PC and then transfer the the newly downloaded .exe-file, but the same - same virus. The AV just delete the file and make a popup that it have been removed
Have tried looking the virus up on google, but no results.
I need to edit the userChrome in PFF 2.0: I searched within the directory and I get two file:
Firefox (portable)\App\DefaultData\profile\chrome\userChrome.css
Firefox (portable)\App\firefox\defaults\profile\chrome\userChrome.css
Wich one is the right one?
I tried copy the same file on both location, but I get no results (i added the .searchbar-textbox {width: 20px !important;} to resize the searchbox but it is still of the same size...)
very good work you are doing in this site
sorry for the english that follows...
i found you searching for a browser to be able to distribute a cd. i posted a question in an old post and John T. Haller suggested to me to create a new threath.
i am doing a work making cds for distribution in valencia (spain) for small city councils on the area. the info is on html for it to be able to run in GNU-LINUX, mac and windows. i found this opportunity a good way to make diffusion of firefox and your version on portable is the perfect solution. but i find that your solution is thinked for a person that changes of computer and i see also other way that you may think also: about the cds that are for distribution (in different computers but several times in the same). i mean, that it would be a good idea to give the choice of no deleting the preferences, so each time the person uses the cd doesnt need to say ok to the window with the warning message.
I am running a copy of TiddlyWiki on my portable hard drive. I would love to have the wiki be one of the start tabs on PF. I have tried many versions of the path using a relative address, including many .. and . addresses. Is there a more straightforward way to do this? Or have I just not hit the proper path yet.
Thanks.
FirefoxPortable will be blocked by Kaspersky anti-virus
