login problems from within FF

Submitted by vic6string on June 11, 2006 - 5:41am

I am running portable ff off a thumbdrive at work. Whenever I try to login to certain sites (yahoo for email, msn for hotmail, espn insider) it times out. This happens with both stored passwords and newly typed. I have already cleared the saved passwords, the cache and the cookies. I have limited user rights on the machine, but ff works fine otherwise, and connects everywhere else. We are behind a firewall, but I can login to all the sites on IE. Any ideas why this is happening? Any fixes out there?

thanks
Vic

Cookies and Saved Passwords?

Submitted by CallMeZoot on June 10, 2006 - 3:56pm

Hi,

Does Portable Firefox save cookies and "remember this password" information on the thumbdrive, or on the host computer? Is there a way to make it always save this information on the thumbdrive?

Also, what about saved passwords that are saved by the website, not firefox (i.e. where there's a checkbox that says "remember me on this computer.") Can I make this information save on the thumbdrive instead of on the host computer?

Thanks,
chris.

Synching FireFox with Google extension

Submitted by BillDrew on June 8, 2006 - 10:46am

Google has just released a Firefox extension that "continuously synchronizes your browser settings". Basically it will store the settings you choose in your Google account — which are then loaded each time the browser is launched. I just installed it on my laptop and in PortableFirefox. It does require that you have a GoogleMail (G-mail) account but gives you the option to set one up. The settings are stored in your Gmail account. It works better than any other synching options I have seen.

Get it at http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/

"Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers.

Proxy Problems

Submitted by Hazman on June 7, 2006 - 8:09am

I have the proxy settings correct (borrowed from internet explorer installed on the PC) and pages 'load'. However, I need to login using a username and password for each file that loads, whereas with IE and Mozilla (which are installed on the PCs) I only need to login once per browser instance.
Is there any way I can fix this problem?

auto update question..

Submitted by RickW on June 5, 2006 - 12:02pm

I read the FAQ and it said it was OK to let FF auto update.. I have been getting a message to update to release DOT 04. But isn't that upgrade intended for non-portable versions only and I have to wait for the portable version?

Profile Sharing

Hello guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I have PFF in a shared folder, I also have two user accounts mine and my wifes, she connects to my pc via RDP and logs in with her user account.

I would like her to use the same PFF which is in the shared folder. The problem is the thie little chestnut 'parent.lock'. If I am browsing and she connects and wants to browse I keep gettig 'firefox is already running' etc.

I have tried 'AllowMultipleInstances' in the .ini file but this does not allow her to run it aswell as myself.

Portable FF is hanging

Submitted by Bwangster12 on June 2, 2006 - 10:27am

It didn't happen at first... but recently as I am using FF it will hang/freeze for time frames from 5-25 seconds at a time randomely. I can be doing anything and it will just hang/freeze and then come back and be fine. If I am putting in a password and it stalls and I continue entering digits, it will just spurt out all the password when it comes back.

Strange and annoying. Today I upgraded to the newest version of FF and it appears to still have a problem.

Every so often I get a file is corrupted message again regarding a particular file or two in my Portable FF folder on my USB driv

Easy Update to FF 1.5.0.4

Submitted by wsm23 on June 2, 2006 - 9:44am

I just updated PFF to 1.5.0.4. Simple download, restart and check for compatability of extensions. (most extensions that are comp with 1.5.0.3 are tagged 1.5.*)

If you version does not notify you right away then you can go to Help and Check for Updates.

It works just fine.

Please don't ask John to release a PFF 1.5.0.4 today. I'm sure that is very annoying.
