What is the advantage of using PFF over a nightly zip build of FF?

Submitted by raj on May 26, 2006 - 4:00pm

I have been using the latest nightly zip build of FireFox on my iPod. I have configured my profile to reside in my iPod using the FF profile manager so that I can carry my extensions along. I haven't found a way to change the profiles.ini path from the default %AppPath% folder, but the first time I use FF from my iPod, I configure it to use the profile present in my iPod. That way my settings and bookmarks are available whereever I use the nightly FF build.

How does Portable Firefox differ from the method I use?

Different Language in FF

Hello,

at first..., sorry for my terrible english :-D.
I use FF for and now I've bought an USB-Stick for myself.
I like FF and I use it on my computer with the german language.
Now I get PFF :-), it's a fine program and I have no problem to use it with
the english language, but I'm to lazy.
I want to know, how I can change the language of this really good program?

PS: I'm also using Thunderbird as well

Passwords aren't saved!

After my horrible corruption incident, I had to basically start over. I had a backup I made with FEBE, so I have my extensions and bookmarks, but for some reason Fx won't save my login info any more. It prompts for the master password when I go to a site that has a login, but doesn't store the login info. It has only asked if I want it to remember passwords twice and it saved those, but hasn't actually put them in the boxes when I go to the site. There is one exception, though: FireFTP. It saved that info, and I do not need to enter it when I use FireFTP.

userprofile error

I've been using the ini, and ever since I have, files that should be put in PortableApps\PortableFirefox\
Data\userprofile\ are put in same directory as the launcher, even though the userprofile path is correctly defined in the ini.

PFF hangs a lot.

I don't have that problem with the non-portable Firefox. And I don't remember it happening when I first got Portable. Maybe it was a different version then. But now...sheesh.

I'll start to type a password and after three letters nothing shows up. I wait about 5-10 seconds and I can type again. Or I pull down a menu and wait...until it lets up and drops the menu. I can't even click anything during the hangs. The buttons won't highlight as the mouse goes over.

It started out being just an occasional hang but now it's really frequent. And annoying. I was trying to get out of the office one day. I just wanted to see if my post to a group had posted before I left. All I had to do was refresh the page, scroll down, and then scroll back up to log out. It hung after each little step. I refreshed. Then I had to wait to scroll. Then I had to wait to scroll back up. I had to wait before I could hit the link to sign off. Then I had to wait to hit the X to close the program.

Corruption! (in data, not politics)

For some reason, some files on my USB drive became corrupted. I ran chkdsk, and that recovered most of the files, but some were deleted! The really bad thing about it is that the prefs.js file for Fx is gone, and while I was able to get most of my preferences set, some will not stay.
I can't customize my toolbar. I can change things, but I'm back to default when I open Fx again. I made sure that prefs.js and user.js were writable. It's quite odd because my status bar icons were out of order, and I was able to rearrange them and keep the settings, and I was also to change the theme, which also stays.
