TB 9 on beta channel

I've noticed after upgrading Thunderbird Portable to 9.0, that it thinks it's on the beta update channel, and is thus offering me a beta of the next version as a recommended update.

I looked in the about:config window, and it shows app.update.channel is set to "beta" and it shows that as the default setting.

This does not seem right.

Syncing Thunderbird with Android

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 25, 2011 - 3:46pm

Hello,

I have an HTC Desire HD smart phone with Google OS.
Unfortunately the HTC Sync software only offers Microsoft Outlook to take the data from.

I want to use Mozilla Thunderbird Portable.
There I can manage my emails and my contacts.
And I want to use the "Lightning" Add-On for Thunderbird (to manage my appointments and my tasks).

The only reason why I am using Outlook is the missing sync support.
No matter what device you buy (Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian OS), every device can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook.

Unable to load all accounts after hibernation

Submitted by ameisez on December 4, 2011 - 3:48am

Hi,

I was using Thunderbird portable when suddenly laptop goes hibernation due to low power. Plugged in AC power then resume hibernation doesn't seem to show any problem. Everything resumes as expected.

I then properly close all portable apps, then close main PortableApps menu, then unmount drive. Doesn't seem to show any problem either. Everything closes properly.

490 important emails lost thanks to Mozilla Thunderbird Portable

Submitted by Barney Simpson on December 1, 2011 - 8:40am

Hi everybody,
I used Thunderbird Portable to download mail (POP3). I've set up the account, and the program started merrily to download the mails (490 mails, about 1Gig). I've noticed that the subject of the message were not showing in the program window while downloading, but I thought it was not relevant.
At the end of the download, there are no email messages in the program. So I close and restart thunderbird.
It does search for other messages, and the messages start to show themselves in the program window, but they are now only 19!

Thunderbird Portable Showing Email in HTML code only

Submitted by Kevin53 on November 22, 2011 - 9:39am

I have downloaded my email from my webserver and most commercial emails from businesses with a lot of images are only coming in as html code only. In fact it looks like TB portable is actually combining some of the older emails into one.

Can anyone help me with this? As far as I can tell, TB portable is a big bust!

Thanks,
Kevin

Thunderbird 8.0 not so portable. <solved - PEBKAC error>

Submitted by twizzle on November 17, 2011 - 5:12am

Interesting one - I moved my PortableApps from my network share on to my hard drive, and while it's the HD version of the Thunderbird app that gets updated and the profile directory on the HD is being updated with account changes, it's the original mail directories back on the network share that are being updated with the mail. I checked the [ProfD] setting through the error console, and it points to the HD profile. Everything I can find in the Thunderbird UI points to the hard drive, damned if I can find the link between the profile on the HD and the original mail files on the share.

Can't start Thunderbird

Submitted by comtech5 on November 12, 2011 - 11:09am

When I try to launch TB, I get a new window "TB appears to be running from a location that is read-only. Would you like to temporarily copy it to the local hard drive and run it from there?"
I've gotten this error msg many times before and was always able to resolve it somehow. I cannot this time.
I tried chkdsk and no problems found.
I've very recently compacted my inbox.
I tried re-installing TB v8 software and this didn't help either.
