[SOLVED] TB Portable will not work

Submitted by Lady Charly on September 20, 2009 - 9:37am

My HDD was dying, so I installed TBP to an external hard drive. It worked perfectly at my first try transferring all email from TB on the HDD and I used it for 3 days w/o any problems. My PC manufacturer sent me a new HDD, I uploaded all the disks and it was good to go. Then I opened TBP and it asked me to set up an account. I checked the folders and everything is in there and I cannot figure out why it's not working as it was before I installed the new HDD. It was my understanding that I could plug this EHDD into any computer and TBP would work just fine. What is wrong with it?

Picasa does not play well with Thunderbird Portable

Submitted by kriemer on September 19, 2009 - 6:06pm

For a variety of reasons I prefer to use some portable apps on my computers. Today I moved from Outlook to Thunderbird Portable and am extremely happy with the change except for one problem.

I am trying to send photos from Picasa using TB. Picasa "sees" TB as my default email program, but when I hit send something happens but Thunderbird does not receive the photos.

Any fix to this issue?

HELLO ALL,

I am facing a serious problem, that will cost me 4 years of hard work to be lost..
I established four accounts in one version of T/B, and were working properly, until 2 days ago, the software was not able to log to show me any message.. it is clear that the data is there since the size is more than 12GB still exist.. but now it is starting as if T/B has been installed from start.. and asking for accounts configuration..
Please, help me cos am not willing to be starting from scratch..

TB reloading extra copies of messages left on server

Submitted by PanchoPistolas on September 8, 2009 - 9:48am

I'm using a copy of TB Portable to make a backup of a large number (12k+) of messages currently residing on my email server. I'm leaving messages on the server for now as a backup, and my "local" copy of TB works fine with it. However, TB portable keeps re-copying messages it's already read from the server (usually about 4k of them at a time!), and it looks like a nasty bug.

I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition (SP-2) on an Athlon 64 X2 (dual core).

Application Icon

Submitted by dufferjones on September 7, 2009 - 11:49pm

I've got T-Bird and Firefox working on my jump drive. For FF, the application Icon was sent to the main window of the jump for easier access. It works. However, doing the same for T-Bird doesn't. An error message comes up saying to reinstall to fix the problem (it doesn't). Is this the way Portable T-Bird is or is there a workaround? I'd appreciate any feedback. Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend. D Jones

TP can't send using smtp yahoo settings

Submitted by KevlarSix on September 5, 2009 - 2:40am

Whenever I try to send an email, it shows "enter your password for ***** on smtp.mail.yahoo.com". I promptly fill up my yahoo mail plus password and I check the "use password manager to remember this password".

Then it shows "enter your password for ***** on smtp.mail.yahoo.com again and again even I check the remember password.

Once I press cancel sending.

Why can't I save the Message filters info?

Submitted by WaterLin on September 4, 2009 - 2:23am

I change a computer so I copy the whole thunderbird Portable to my new computer.

The Thunderbird Portable works fine on my computer except that it can't record my new Message filters info. When I modify my Message Filters, the thunderbird works immediately and correctly.

But after I shut down and restart the thunderbird portable, the new message filters are gone. I don't know why.

I can't modify the filters config file manually:
ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\ImapMail\11.11.11.11\msgFilterRules.dat

But just can't save the change to this config file in thunderbird.

Mangled profile

I feel like a noob, but here goes.

I have a version of TBP that I use on my main desktop. At some point, I must have hit "Update" and now have mess. I know how to transfer a profile from an installed to a portable version (copy profile) but it seems that some of my information is in the portable location, and some at the "Application Data" location. Copying either makes the new portable version act like a new install. Does this make sense? (Be kind.) Is there a way to save this, or should I just use this as an opportunity to migrate to TB 3.0?
