[Closed] Skype Portable cannot be started

Submitted by tapsklaps on August 18, 2013 - 11:34am

If I want to start Skype Portable, I receive an error message with the following content:

Skype Portable cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: Skype.exe could not be found)

After a new installation of Skype Portable appears the same error message. I looked now in the folder SkypePortable\App\Skype and indeed I've detected, that there isn't any executable Skype.exe. I performed the installation about the PA.com menu.

Surely is the incorrect content of the file installer.ini the reason for this issue.

[Closed] uTorrent seems installed

Submitted by farat_as on August 16, 2013 - 6:03am

Hi,

I newly format Windows 7 on my machine. I have open a non-admin account for other people who use this machine. So no one knows admin password except me.

Today I open "Installed Applications" from "Control Panel". I see that uTorrent is installed on machine.(writes that installation date: today)

I am sure that I did not install it. I had open utorrent portable once when I had log on as admin.

Did anybody open utorrent portable as admin user and look on Installed Application from Control Panel? There was a bug about this?

New "Chrome App Launcher" desktop shortcut

Submitted by SES21 on August 16, 2013 - 12:26am

Google has a new (to me, at least) way they're dealing with "apps" in the Chrome Web Store. They've separated those into Websites & Apps & left Extensions as-is. In their infinite wisdom, they also decided that they should create a "Chrome App Launcher" shortcut on the desktop when you install an App. So, today there is this shortcut on the desktop because I installed Google Keep in Chrome Portable. It points at my PAc Chrome Profile but it did not get removed when I closed Chrome Portable. I'm not quite sure what should happen with it but I don't think it should be left behind.

diffpdf classification, Office or Utilities or both ?

Submitted by Wm ... on August 10, 2013 - 3:55am

This isn't a big deal but when I was looking for diffpdf recently I looked under Office first and after a bit of head scratching found it under Utilities / File Comparison.

Where do other people think it should reside? I can see an argument for both. Is it possible for an app to appear in more than one category?

Calibre updates

Submitted by jojothehobo on August 7, 2013 - 2:48pm

Hi All:
I just downloaded and installed the .paf version of Calibre ebook reader and converter, version 0.9.16). It is a partially supported developmental test release but it works pretty well. It opens and converts epub to pdf like a charm.

When I open the application I get a notice that a new, updated version is available. When I click on the update button I get taken to the home page for Calibre where it shows an update to the latest version (0.9.42) as a full update with a .exe extension. I gather from this that it will either remove and replace or replace the version I have.

Getting Portable Chrome or Firefox to work with 1password

Submitted by please55 on August 6, 2013 - 9:22am

Hello.

Was wondering if anyone else had managed to get the app to work with their portable browsers?

If I understand the issue correctly it has to do with 1password only working with default profile locations. My proposed solution is to set up symbolic links to the right locations.

1) Where does portable Chrome and Firefox save profile information? (I set up my portable folder for the browser @ "C:\Applications\...")

2) How does that compare to where a normal Chrome and Firefox install saves profile information?

3) Any help with how to set up symbolic links to the right spot?

Foxit Reader Portable (another instance of foxit reader is starting)

Submitted by sportableuser on August 5, 2013 - 4:16am

Hi guys,

I am receiving the error message "another instance of foxit reader is starting" whenever I try to run the portable app.

I have already read through the existing support topic and checked to ensure that no foxit processes are running. Also elevated to check the same via task manager.

Rebooted the computer and have the same issue.

Checked using "Lock Hunter" and the folder is not locked by any other process.

Also deleted the portable folder, redownloaded latest version of foxit, reinstalled, rebooted, ran ccleaner and same issue persists.
