.gpkg backup in Gramps portable v3.4.2-1 will not load

Submitted by Jamms on July 2, 2013 - 3:09pm

I'm trying to open a .gpkg file made on Gramps 3.4.2-1 (Windows 8) but it's a not working.
A kind soul from another world sent me some links to read and apparently others are experiencing the same problem. The Gramps portable would be great BUT only if creating and reloading backups isn't an impossible feat so I'm hoping there is some way to either
* upgrade,
* use the command line to force the .gpkg to open (so I can at least save as XML or something), or
* use some 3rd party app to extract whatever files are in the .gpkg.

Thanks, Jill

ControlPad need help with commands.

What I would like to do is run other programs with ControlPad but here's my problem:

The directory structure is like this:

Root>\PortableApps\ControlPadPortable\ControlPadPortable.exe

How do I reference things 2 levels up from the executeable? such as ChromePortable.exe which is under:

Root>\PortableApps\ChromePortable\ChromePortable.exe

If the drive letter were the same every time it would be a simple fix, but I am using these portable apps at client sites and on various computers. If I could get this to work it would make my life much easier.

Submitted by billyMass on June 29, 2013 - 8:01am

hi

I see most apps have a "cache" folder, for example:
C:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\Cache

can I regularly delete the contents of these folders in order to save space on my hard drive ?
it there a feature in portableapps's platform that can do that for me regularly ?

Jarte Plus upgrade to PortableApps Jarte program

Submitted by jojothehobo on June 27, 2013 - 11:38am

I've been using Jarte lightweight word processor and find it useful, especially because has tabbed documents and a lot of useful features such as equations. It is a good add on for PortableApps Office Apps, complementing AbiWord and LibreOffice writer.

Their "plus" upgrade, which costs $29.95, adds auto outlining, projects, autocorrect and a couple of other useful features. It would make the program more useful.

Google Chrome portable - keep gernerate Local State TMP file in \GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile folder

Submitted by papayaroot on June 24, 2013 - 9:01pm

Local State is a file to store the setting of Chrome. In desktop version, there is just only one Local State file, but in my portable version, the program keeps generating TMP Local State file for every minuate.

I have the same setting, extensions for my desktop and portable version.

Google Chrome Portable - Start with local relative file

Submitted by charlesartbr on June 23, 2013 - 1:16pm

Hi guys,

I developed a small website and I need to distribute it on CD-ROM. I want to use Google Chrome Portable to do it, but I have tryed many options with no success. I need to set the initial page to a relative HTML file, because I don't know the user drive letter, so they need to be relative to .exe file. I already tryed with --homepage and --app parameters, the App mode is preferred because there is no tools, bars and tabs.

I already tryed on "GoogleChromePortable.ini":

AdditionalParameters=--homepage=mypage.html

Notepad ++ portable multi-line tab erases lines

I have v6.3.3.

One of my favorite features of NotePad++ is multi-line editing: holding SHIFT + ALT and moving the arrow keys to span multiple lines and columns, and then deleting or editing.

Now, since I updated to 6.3.3—and I tried re-updating several times, and removing all plugins—when I do a multi-line select and press TAB, to indent multiple lines, it starts selecting text that I didn't select, and then TAB erases it.

Software forum claims don't support apps from portableapps.com

Submitted by christina_a on June 10, 2013 - 4:34pm

I actually asked this - a LONG time ago & now sorta running into same question.

Could be for ANY app from portableapps.com, but was looking on qbittorrent's forum.
Just looking at general info before diving into trying it.

Not trying to come down on anyone - but I'm confused. (don't shoot the messenger, here). Smile
Do the dev's (or some) allowing PA.com to distribute their apps, say "we won't give support to users of your portable version?"
