GnuCash and getting stock quotes

Submitted by waltnorth on January 17, 2013 - 5:51pm

Has anyone had any luck getting stock quotes retrieval to work from GnuCash. I have both GnuCash and Perl loaded as PortableApps. I suspect that GnuCash is not aware of the Perl install.

Does it need to find Perl at GnuCash install time or runtime or both?

Is there a GnuCash configuration that can be changed to find the PortableApps version of Perl?

skype not remembering password in another PC?

Submitted by joshatt on January 17, 2013 - 9:41am

Hi,
I've been using skypeportable for years, several versions, mainly 5.x.
One thing I don't like is that the password part is not indeed portable --- if running in another PC, or current PC has an OS reinstallation, I'll be asked password. And you know, we're easily forgetting password in a long run.
Does everybody has this problem? Where/which file is the password saved?
Any idea?

skype 6.1.0.129 not portable

Submitted by colinw on January 15, 2013 - 4:56am

Hi There,

I have been trying out the latest skype portable 6.1.0.129. The problem i've noticed is that once run it always creates a skype folder in the programdata folder, and also a skype folder in the users profile/appdata/ roaming folder.

The skype folder in the roaming folder is empty.

But the one in programdata is not, and the contents of this folder are also in the skypeportable/app/skype/login folder.

But skype portable is using the roaming one and not the portable one ?

Any ideas please ?

Thanks

Running two instances of Chrome/Iron with different parameters but one install?

Submitted by trust on January 14, 2013 - 12:35pm

I need two instances of PortableChrome/PortableIron with different GoogleChromePortable.ini or IronPortable.ini files. Do I have to install two instances of the the same software in two directories as well or can I solve this by one install, two sets of parameters?

Taking Backups/Images and Restoring Advice

Submitted by newly-portable on January 14, 2013 - 6:27am

Hi,

I am looking for expert advice and guidance and someone to help guide me through this with a step by step approach. I have appealed for help on other forums and got mixed responses.... Ideally I'm looking to do a "clean" backup and restore without even installing the software doing the backup on the C drive as when the backup is being done it will backup the backup software itself.

Operating System: Windows 7 64 Bit , Drives: SSD C: and 2x 1 tb internal drives labelled as D: and E:, and a 4 TB NAS Drive

Uninstall jPortable

Submitted by ratcatcher on January 13, 2013 - 8:10pm

How do I uninstall jPortable? Is it simply a case of deleting the X:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java folder and sub-folders?

If so, given that X:\PortableApps\CommonFiles will then be empty, can I delete that, too?

Is there anything else I need to do to complete the process?

Regards

Nick

Whoa! Iron has crashed. Relaunch now?

Submitted by trust on January 12, 2013 - 11:51am

This is how iron starts up now, even after the actual relaunch. So in other words, just does not start up. Is this a feature of the portable version or of Iron itself?

I guess it should work if I delete only a file or directory but I don't want to lose my settings. Any similar experience with Iron or a solution in mind?

Google Chrome search engines import/export from Web Data

Submitted by p2013 on January 11, 2013 - 11:02am

Maybe to save someone elses time: The common backup/restore of the search engines within the SQL database Web Data does not work without hands-on this time as Google has added another column: alternate_urls VARCHAR.

So after the backup of the keywords table I added '[]' at the end of each line.

Then you can restore to the new version. If you don't do this, the search engines will not show up in the new Google Chrome Version 24.0.1312.52.

Here is the batch script I use:

@echo off

set DB_PATH=P:\software\GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile\Default
