Another instance of xxx Portable is starting.

Submitted by Garfield22 on March 31, 2016 - 3:39pm

Hi,

after cloning my windows7 some strange things start happening with portable app.
If I start application with Privilege level "As Administrator" it works.
If I start it as user which is also an Administrator, all Portable applications show error message "Another instance of Portable is starting. ....". No process was running and file Data\PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-FeedNotifierPortable.ini did not exist before starting.

This error occurs with following tools : Notepad++, uTorrent, Sumatra.

[Fixed] jPortable Launcher incompatible with jPortable 8 Update 77

Submitted by Andreas Rheinhardt on March 25, 2016 - 2:12pm

I just updated jPortable and found that the jPortable Launcher is incompatible with this new release; this is probably due to a change in the folder structure: The old path to the binaries was \CommonFiles\Java\bin; the new one is \CommonFiles\Java\App\AppInfo\bin. Please update the jPortable Launcher. (Maybe one can make the launcher work via symbolic links so that it finds the necessary files at the right place. But I don't have enough time to experiment with this and just reverted to version 73.)

[Fixed] AkelPadPortable.exe should wait for AkelUpdater.exe

If you run AkelPad's built-in updater (AkelUpdater.exe) e.g. to update plugins or scripts (you can also update AkelPad itself this way), by default the updater wants to relaunch AkelPad, however AkelPadPortable.exe does not wait for AkelUpdater, and thus it moves AkelPad's settings back to the Data directory when you close AkelPad (which AkelUpdater asks you to do), causing the app to break the app out of portable mode when AkelUpdater relaunches it.

Songbird Playlists help - Songbird, iTunes, or Doubletwist?

Submitted by varxtis on March 23, 2016 - 5:19pm

I recently purchased a 4tb portable drive and wanted to have iTunes on it so I could play my iTunes playlists wherever I go. The closest solution I found was Songbird. But Im having some issues. I copied the music folder ( from "C:\Users\varxt\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music) to the portable drive, then installed Songbird.

just for your guidance:
-- with the update to 2.40 the localized versions still can not handle the passwords (as announced on SM-pages, this will come with 2.42) .. the english version works well
-- when using lightning, both extensions need an update (Lightning and provider for google calendars) .. otherwise the calenders will not be shown

Opera Mail portable - preferences missing

Submitted by nicolleen on March 14, 2016 - 8:16am

Hi,

I'm considering switching from Thunderbird to Opera Mail. I have successfully imported and set up my accounts and everything works fine, I have to get used to a few things.
But there are several adjustable features, only one problem: The menu items are just not there! I have Settings > Preferences > General > Language and Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Notifications, Fonts and Shortcuts. No more. Where are all the preferences that I keep find referring to in the Help file and in google? Are they missing in the portable version in general?
