Marble fails to start

Submitted by PClough on November 19, 2016 - 5:21am

Suddenly Marble has decided that it wouldn't start. I get a message saying:
"This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "windows"
It suggests to reinstall the apps, which I did. But it still gives me the same message.
I'm running Win 10 with the latest patches.

Unable to launch Notepad++ after RDP reboot

Submitted by Teufelaffe on September 23, 2016 - 12:20pm

I've been using Notepad++ Portable on a Windows server at work that I connect to via RDP. There were some issues with the server and they rebooted the machine without warning us, so Notepad++ Portable was running when the reboot occurred. Now, when I reconnect and try to run Notepad++ Portable, it get the error "Another instance of Notepad++ is already running. Please close other instances of Notepad++ before launching Notepad++ Portable."

Google Chrome 51.0.2704.84 is EULA.txt wrong location

Submitted by Jeff Savage on June 9, 2016 - 6:20pm

In the help file for Google Crome 51.0.2704.84, there is a line that says "Installer and launcher licensed under GPLv2. More License Info."

The text "More License Info" redirects to "file:///P:/PortableApps/GoogleChromePortable/Other/Source/EULA.txt" where P is the letter of the drive where PortableApps is installed. Because this file is missing, Firefox gives the error
"Firefox can't find the file at /P:/PortableApps/GoogleChromePortable/Other/Source/EULA.txt."

Should this EULA be included or should the link be removed?

Google Chrome Portable does not play sound

Submitted by khs10uk on June 3, 2016 - 6:32am

For a year or so, I have not been able to hear sound in Google Chrome Portable when running it from Portable Apps on my hard drive, and this has to be manually fixed by opening Playback Devices from the taskbar speaker icon, selecting the playback device that is ALREADY set to default and clicking OK. I have to do this for every new tab and link that I visit. I had assumed that an update to Google Chrome would fix this, but as yet, none has. All other portable apps browsers work correctly.

FreeCommander / FastCopy

Submitted by DADSGETNDOWN on May 29, 2016 - 8:00pm

When moving/copying files, whether within the same drive or slave drive or to USB Portable drives, which is the better way to go FreeCommander or FastCopy ? I think they use different ways to do it and have faster abilities and or more or less errors. I also wanted to know about what setting is better for FreeCommander in the File/Folder Operations section of settings, you can tell it to "Use Windows" or "Use FreeCommander", what's better there ? Which is why I posted here instead of in General.

Iron browser on win xp

Submitted by Xandl on May 25, 2016 - 11:38pm

Hi there,

on win xp sp3, I updated the iron browser via the PortableApps platform.
Now it does not work anymore, as stated on the web page.
This is bad.
The PortableApps platform tool knows my system and version very well.
It would have been better not to kill a working browser for a clearly unusable one.

Please guide me to the last working portable iron version for win xp,
I could not locate it on the web page.

Thank you.

veracrypt drivers?

Submitted by ottosykora on May 25, 2016 - 6:03pm

I am aware of the fact the truecrypt or veracrypt will need drivers to be installed on the computer where it should run.
Correctly, when trying to run veracrypt, I am asked for admin password.
What I like to know, will the driver be deinstalled when closing veracrypt?
