Opera Browser Portable - Change Default Partner Content

Submitted by Drazick on January 31, 2016 - 2:25am

Hello,

I'm using Opera Browser.
The browser uses Local Google service which I want to switch to google.com.
I encountered this as the suggested solution:

http://superuser.com/questions/745989/change-google-co-uk-to-google-com

I found the file "default_partner_content.json" in 2 places:

OperaPortable\App\Opera\profile\data
OperaPortable\App\Opera\34.0.2036.25\resources

ClamWin Antivirus

Submitted by PortableGood on January 29, 2016 - 3:25am

Typically, antivirus applications install device drivers and often other components that must start during the boot process.

I just want to confirm that the PortableApps version of ClaimWin Antivirus does *not* install any device drivers or other components that start during the boot process.

Also, does it include virus removal tools, or only detection?

Finally, when the portable version is first run, does it download new virus signatures?

GoogleChromePortable reads Group Policies in Registry

Submitted by JTHM on January 28, 2016 - 4:09am

Is there a way stop this? I am finding that on PCs where the administrator has actively worked to prevent Google Chrome from running and/or hobble it's features and then locked down the registry keys Chrome is no more useful than the standard IE installation. This is hardly "portable". Is there a way to configure GoogleChromePortable to ignore any policies set in the system registry?

[Fixed] Spybot portable leaving desktop installer on Windows 10

Submitted by herjazz on January 27, 2016 - 2:22pm

Put the latest version of this on my USB stick. Ran it and scanned my PC. It did its business and then I closed it. However, it seems to have put files on my PC without my asking for it.

Namely, a shortcut on my desktop called "Post Win10 Spybot-install". When I restart my PC, I get a prompt "Post Win10 Spybot-install" wants to change settings on my PC. What's going on here? I thought portable apps shouldn't try to install anything on the PC.

GNUcash copy & paste fails

Submitted by ajax on January 26, 2016 - 2:51pm

Just downloaded GNUcash Portable. I keep my records in a MySQL DB which, on Windows, requires entry of password on every DB connection (i.e., whenever you start GNUcash). The panel used for entering the DB connection parameters does not allow use of keyboard (i.e., CTL+V) to paste data into these fields. Using mouse (right click) to select paste does work.

Once DB connection is established keyboard seems to function normally.
