A Call for Flash Updates

Submitted by Devo on September 18, 2010 - 3:45pm

PortableApps provide a great service for those who use computers that are locked down so that preferential software cannot be installed. Often times the reason for this is that the owners of the computers do not want inexperienced users (or even sometimes, experienced users) to install questionable software that may contain a virus. This is a security measure. PortableApps provides a work around to this, as it allows other, sometimes better software to be used.

Will FreeOTFEPortable be listed on PortableApps.com? I thought it was at one point but doesn't seem to be any longer. Is there a policy that determines an app's listing based on whether the portabilization is done in-house or not?

Just curious. I think FreeOTFE is a good tool and would be nice to have listed. I use it but if that is contra to PA.c policy then sobeit.

Possible to change Portable Apps Data folder location?

Submitted by raychi on September 16, 2010 - 3:44pm

I use portable apps whenever possible. It allows me to re-install my OS without affecting the application and data, and copy the app/settings to a different machine easily, and to preserve windows in a clean state as much as possible.

As such, I am not actually using it on a USB stick.

I am wondering if it's possible to re-direct the Data folder under each application to a different location? I am not talking about junctions, I am talking about having the app look for the Data folder elsewhere.

The main advantages would be to keep the applications its data separate.

Donations?

Submitted by luptonma on September 16, 2010 - 1:55pm

I've been using the Portableapps.com products for years and just updated to the 2.0 beta 5 version of the platform. Other than a minor install glitch (McAfee didn't like the installer's filename) it's worked great so far. I've gotten enough use out of the products over the years that I wanted to donate some cash. However my searching of the web site and fora have not uncovered the expected PayPal link. The latest status update indicated significant corporate support was in the offing which is great. Is PortableApps.com is still accepting donations from users?

Double click option

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here, so if this is posted into the wrong section of the forum please tell me. (or @admins: put it in the right place)

Possibly this is already asked but I didn't find anything by searching for "double click". It only pointed me to unrelevant topics, which is quite logic since the words are commonly used into explaining something briefly to a person.
