Self-Promotional Posting

"Promoting your own software is not currently permitted here (though it will be soon)."
- 2010-04-16

I'd like to self-promote, but I don't want to lie ("You can, of course, pretend that you simply "found" your own software").

Why I think I should be allowed to:

  • My software is portable by nature.
  • I want to support a PortableApps version. My software is shareware, but it's my my own software, so there's no problem with permissions.
  • Switch between Windows XP and 7

I have just purchased a new PC with Windows 7 64 bit, and then tried to start my portableapps programs. To my big surprise this didn´t work and seemingly you have to upgrade for example Thunderbird to run on 7. But what do you do when you have a mix of computers with XP and 7?? A little annoying I must say if this forces me to upgrade my two other PC´s from XP to 7.

Not much fun if I upgrade and start using TB now, and then in a week when I return home, I can´t use my email any longer Sad

What happened to the RSS feeds

    Submitted by marcdw on September 9, 2010 - 9:04pm

Is there something wrong with the RSS news feeds? In Thunderbird I check
and get nothing since August. In Chrome with Slick RSS the same.
If I click on the RSS button on the website it's also the same. No updates.
But there on the main page is a list of new and upgraded packages for
    September.
Is it just taking longer to get listed now?

Anyhind, glad to see a slew of updates.

Freeware Rules: Launcher vs. downloading Installer [newbie question]

    Submitted by Moonbase on September 9, 2010 - 6:47am

    Hi everyone,

I’m quite new to portablizing, but I like the idea—and the PortableApps way of doing it.

Before I make any mistakes, here’s my questions:

I plan to portablize two freeware apps (non-Open Source) that I found useful in the past and think others might like to have portable, too:

    1. MELM, a German-language software to check wins in the German state lottery "6 aus 49" (6-of-49). This software is freeware for up to 35 tips but can be registered to allow for more.

While I wasn't here for the beginning...

...I think it is safe to say I was a fan of PortableApps until the end. Not that I'm not now, but it seems like the project is kinda dead.

Google Chrome Portable - Flash buttons are not working

    Submitted by hkBattousai on September 8, 2010 - 9:21am

    I'm using the version 5.0.375.99.

I'm using Google Chrome for Facebook. I can successfully start playing Facebook videos. But as soon as the video starts, I can't click pause button, can't seek video position, and can't adjust volume. None of the buttons are working.

    How can I solve this?
What do you guys experience, do you have the same problem?
