portablepro's picture
Submitted by portablepro on June 29, 2022 - 6:15pm

I am doing this now several years.

When to "install" this to drive "D"
it ends to...D:\PortableApps\PortableApps
and there it goes for all.

but if i end up to install a lonely app it goes to
D:\PortableApps

This is a bug, error or whatever you might call it.
It disturbs the whole Structure of the Project.
Please fix it.

Might be the fault in your Description of "how to..."
but it is definately wrong.

causing many problems.

Thanks!

How to Change Google Chrome Portable Icon?

I love using portable apps, and I would love to see if I can customize its icon.
I was using other person's computer and found out, there was also a Google Chrome, but not portable.
I wanted to differentiate mine from them, by a simple tweak in my icon, since I always get confused.
I tried going to AppInfo to change the appicons, but it didn't work.
How can I change my GoogleChromePortable icon?
I'd love to hear your answers.
Thank you very much and may you have a wonderful day.

USB encryption suddenly required

I've used Portable Apps from a USB for years at work on 2 or 3 PCs each day. Suddenly my employer requires USB encryption or instead use a shared network drive or Microsoft OneDrive. At some future date, inserted USBs at work will automatically be encrypted if they are not already. Also I'm told the process erases the USB, so I guess that means somehow dumping a backup of the USB back onto the drive after encryption. Please correct me if it isn't that simple. Also will encryption to a USB interfere with Portable App function?

Why Chrome Browser is evil Thread

Once upon a time Google (now Alphabet) stated: Don't be evil.

...

Now, they have become a scannerware...
In the name of security, they are scanning your hardware by multiple ways.
Not only that, the browser scanns your system by all installed software.
Sending this information encrypted to their base.

Just think of it... why can't I just get my portable Chrome on a USB-stick to
another computer and go along with it, and continue to work?

App update issue errors

Submitted by gwt10 on May 25, 2022 - 7:40am

It used to be that I could update my portable apps with my VPN tuned on.

Now it stops in the middle of a download indicating a "proxy error", probably due to the VPN being turned on. I turn the VPN off and it updates normally.

Why should I have to turn my VPN off now? Don't you all respect privacy, anymore?
