Using protable apps in network on file server

Submitted by stefan.kaltenhauser on June 28, 2010 - 4:56am

hy,
has everybody some experience with using protable apps on a file server in a network, where more than one user can use the applications of portable apps on the same time?
the idea behind is that the application will not be loaded on the usb-stick or lockal external hard disk, but on the file server for more users. the problem was that i had a problem with the disk, where i saved the portable apps and so i lost my files as the disk was broken. the same happen bevor with an usb-stick. Untill this problems all worked perfekt, updates too.

Can I destribute Firefox through an online installer?

If I were to make a "suite" or something, I don't know, could I redistribute the launcher from here, but remove firefox, and make the installer download firefox (the original) from the web and extract it to the folder. Or, if I can't do that, can I just make an installer download the whole firefox portable installer and just make it extract that?

Portable Apps vs. OS on a USB

Submitted by Traveler360 on June 23, 2010 - 11:17am

I am new to this forum and to the subject at hand. Please excuse my basic understanding of the deployment of a portable app vs. an OS.

1. Can you have both a linux OS and portable apps on a USB?
2. Can a USB be partitioned to carry both an OS and portable apps and able to boot or access one or the other?

As a traveler, I sometimes do not have access to a pc where I have admin rights to run an OS, i.e. linux w/apps installed that boots USB at startup. Would portable apps solve this problem?

Drupal Update - Site badges

I just noticed the new badges and wanted to share my thoughts about them:

I think they are good because they distinguish between Admins and normal users. So people know a little bit about the rank/reputation/knowledge of the person responding to their posts. Other forums have that too where you earn stars or something depending on your number of posts and I like it.

No more huge regshots in the forums please

Hey guys,

When testing apps, please manually pair down your regshots to just the pertinent information before posting. If you need to post a large regshot, please pastebin.com it and link to it rather than enclosing it in PRE tags. This huge regshot caused our site search indexer to hang. The bug has been reported, but it makes sense to avoid these huge posts anyway.

Thanks!
