Portable VPN that is best & easy to use?

Submitted by weringpeter on June 14, 2010 - 8:57am

Hey everyone.

In need of VPN protection for WiFi's, hotels... when traveling.
What is the best portable VPN that I can start from my USB?
Where can I download such portable VPN?

Is there anything special needed in regards to running the portable vpn as opposed to
regular VPN's (anchorfree, packetix, ultravpn that I used before) that I use when I take my lap with me.

Thank you.

Newbie Question

Submitted by Ross Burrus on June 13, 2010 - 6:22pm

I've got a simple question that has baffled me for a long time.
When downloading a new portable application, I first open the .paf.exe file and the app is installed on my USB drive.

But there seems to be two .exe files that can be used to launch the application??
One of the .exe files is in the App/App-name folder.

The other .exe file is in the App-name folder. This .exe file is much shorter than the other .exe file in the App/App-name folder.

Clicking on either file seems to open the app.

PortableApps.com Menu Theming

Are there any documentation on: Guidelines, How-To or anything regarding themes and theming the PortableApps.com Menu?

I'm thinking of engaging in a personal challenge and designing a theme for my portableapps.com menu. Many people have made themes before [good and bad] yet there is no documentation on building a theme for the PA menu anywhere. At least Google has not pulled anything about it other than bugs regarding the use of themes on older PA menu versions and or websites hosting themes.

What I mean is.

What format must all images be.

Can a Portable WinXP App Be the Default Program in Ubuntu?

Submitted by raywood on June 12, 2010 - 12:39pm

I've successfully used Wine to run PortableApps in Ubuntu. Next issue: can I name a WinXP portable application program, running in PortableApps, to be the default program that runs when I double-click on a certain file type in Ubuntu?

For instance, in Nautilus, I double-click on a .wav file. I want my favorite Windows XP WAV player to open up and play that .wav. Can it be done?

Forum Suggestion

It would be helpful to have a forum for using PortableApps in Linux. I see there are plans for a Linux version of PortableApps, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing. I want to talk to others about using Windows apps in Linux via PortableApps. Thanks.

Portable apps not working in Windows 2008

Submitted by jorgeantonio on June 11, 2010 - 11:05am

Hello,
I have my collection of portable apps working well in my laptop with Windows 7. Now I'm trying to find why this apps are not working on my Workstation. The Workstation is running Windows 2008 R2 and I'm copying the apps through the network to a local drive in the Workstation. It seems like security settings or something like that.
If some one know about what security setting or how to allow this apps to works well in 2008, please let me know.

Thank you!
