How hard would making this portable be?

Submitted by getco on August 7, 2009 - 10:49am

Hello,

I just got a freeware Bulgarian-English dictionary which comes as a ZIP package making it pretty portable. The only thing is it does write quite a lot to the registry so I was wondering how hard would it be to create a portable launcher.

I don't have any experience with this nor am I programmer but I was wondering if there are some ready-made procedures for making portable launchers and since the only thing that has to be taken care of are the registry writes - well I just guessed it might be not that hard...

What do you think?

Other recommended apps & programs

I got 90% of my apps from here, but there are other programs that I have that are good from filehippo. Maybe PA can get permission from these makers and use them as apps! One is DVD Shrink, which I use with VLC media player and the dvd burning software. DVD shrink is a program that decrypts dvds too allow you to copy them. I decrypt and store them on my portable hard drive. Another is CCleaner, which is a computer and registry cleaner. Very good program and easy to use. I also use Defraggler. I know PA has JK defrag, but I have read that Defraggler actually works better.

New Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 8GB - Choppy Performance with Freezes in Firefox Portable. Hardware problem?

Hi All!

MAybe this would suit better as a "google is your friend"-question, but since we're all doing the portable thing here I thought maybe some of you could offer an input.

I recently managed to run my old 4GB Sandisc Micro in the washing machine - 60 degrees Celcius, and I thought I was completely ****-ed.
After drynig a couple of hours I managed to get it online and copied everything to another drive.

Since there's good opportunities everywhere if you look hard enough I realized this was a chance for me to "upgrade" to a bigger and faster drive.

USBDriveFresher

I came across this program on Softpedia today. Looks interesting and I gave it a try. Worked decently well, too. Here's info:

The USBDriveFresher application will help you keep your USB drive clean by removing unwanted files automatically and according to rules you specify.

Your computer and others may automatically place files on your USB drive every time you use it. Now you can keep it clear and clean just as automatically – using rules you set up and approve.

New Seagate 500gb portable HDD

Ok, I scored lucky on this! A friend of mine went to Officemax and bought this this wednesday, and took it home and hooked it to his computer, and couldnt get it to work, so he calls me and I come over, and I get it hooked up, so I pulled out my verbatim flash drive to check write speed, and he was more amazed at the size of the flash drive. Must have never seen one before, and was asking questions about it. I transfered all the data I had on my flash drive to his hard drive, and it read fast! He didnt like the drive, so here is where I got a steal!

How many people have YOU converted to PA..?

So, how many people have you converted to PortableApps or just portable applications in general?

Maximum PC got me, they reviewed the suite/platform and had it on their CD; I got it then.

When I got my third flash drive (my second good one) I loaded the first one up with copies of my wife's Firefox and Pidgin, and other apps she might find useful, and built her a custom suite.

We have a friend who doesn't have a computer, but borrows his aunt's computer to get online. We went out and bought him a 4GB flash drive and put a custom Suite on it, and some other stuff.
